I was wondering why the soft loop on the bottom as opposed to a rigid one.  It seems to me that it would be much stronger if it were one molded piece. It would also have no chance of pulling apart (like I had happen to one of mine this week).  I also think it would make loading much easier with a full mag. As I notice on my G27 when I use the palm of my hand to seat the mag, the rubber bumper on the bottom absorbs some of the force, making it slightly harder to seat a full mag.

Just some of my observations.

My guess would be that the soft base holds up better to being dropped on the ground repeatedly and helps soften the blow for the rest of the mag.

it's to cushion the mag when being dropped same as the USGI and PMAG plates

That was my guess, but to me it seems more beneficial to have it rigid.  But maybe there is more benefits to the soft bumper.
