you want to have your hand out as far out on the rifle as you can, with your hand as high on the rifle as possible. im sure you notice this from watching the carbine videos.
i think what you forgot to look at is the style of weapon, in the top picture theres alot of rail to play with and travis can full extend his arm the length of the rail the bottom picture, if you look at chris's rifle is a carbine with much shorter rails, a surefire light and forgrip with a laser on top. this prevents him from getting that "over the bore" grip below him is travis working a baracade with a carbine, again not all that much real estate to extend your hand on |

Also if you look at the equipment, there's no way that Chris could get his thumb over the rail with his setup with the Surefire M900.
The current method that they are teaching is the support arm is horizontal to the ground due to increase control over the rifle when moving from target to target. I have to say it does work, but it took some time getting use to. Like anything this style may not be for you, but it seem to work for me in my class with them. It really works a new muscle in your arm since your holding it differently. |
