Even when I hold the release button in, the stock part won't pull off.
Am I missing something? It looks like it would be easy to take it apart, but I don't want to go that far yet. ETA: I was also pressing the lever in. |

You are pulling the lever all the way back AND pushing the release button all the way in correct?
ETA: Are you getting stopped at the preset screw? You have to pull the lever back and press the preset button to go pass the preset screw. Than when its all the way aft you can pull the lever and press the release button to remove the stock from the tube. |
