Before buying these, I read in their description that they were easy to trim down to whatever length you needed.  After purchasing them and having a look, I don't see any obvious way of doing this. If someone could let me know what the best way of trimming them down would be, that'd be great.

Depending on which ones you purchased there should be "squares" that you can cut to desired length, for example if its an 8 square cover cut it in half for two four square lengths or whatever configuration you desire.

Yes, the ones that I have are the "square" ones.  I'm just confused as to what method I should use to cut them?

I used my pocketknife but you can use an exacto knife or anything sharp.

It's tough to screw up.  I've cut dozens of them using a new razor blade slicing downward between the two ridges that separate the panels.  Firm pressure and a slight sawing cuts it nice and smooth.

If you leave some "flash", shave the rough spot with the same razor blade.

You can't even tell that the multiple panels I use to cover long rails or fill in the blank spot when I remove my light are not one long continuous panel.
