I received my ASAP and M2 today and really like it but there is one problem.  The metal ring on the ASAP dragging makes me cringe (metal on metal).  Do you think the ASAP ring can support the rifle if a small slit was cut in it?  What I am looking to do is cut a small slit in it and cover the ring with the outside of a piece of 550 cord.  I know it may sound stupid but what do you think?

EDIT:  On second thought maybe I can just slit a piece of small tubing and push it over the ring so I don't compromise its integrity.

with patience and a bottle of liquid rubber you can put a nice coat on there that will last and prevent that cling-clang.

That's exactly why I wouldn't order one that jingle would drive me nuts!! Not to mention I have UBR's The sling seems sweet with the diversity of going from single point to two point though.

Travis,

I kept the MS2 in the single point config most of the day.  I tried adjusting it with the loop on the fly and noticed it was inbetween half way from the middle of my back to my left lat.  I was wearing a modified 'Spartan' Style Vest/Plate carrier and the loop rested near where the radio pouch is.  Didn't think to much of it as I just took the sling off,,,adjusted,,,put it back on and repeated until it was just right.  Stayed put the rest of the evolutions for the day.

So the question is, do you ever adjust on the fly while wearing a rig full of pouches or do you have it down by memory where the length you prefer is and cinch up over your kit?

Personally, I never said anything about the noise.  I said the the metal dragging against metal, which I feel could eventually cause wear.  I know it would take a while but still possible.

You might eventually wear down your selector detent also, but you shouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Oh no. Wear on a gun. Wear on a tool. Just like marks on the head of a hammer.

Christ.

Unbelievable, by that stance I guess I should never change the oil in my truck, clean or lube my rifle.  I am talking about wear that leads to failure.  I am not asking it to stay pretty jackass.

Finish wear on a rifle, or on the ASAP sling mount is not going to affect the function.

There is a large difference between some sliding metal on a rifle, and the complex engine of a truck. Not even close.

By the time you wear through the mount, the world will have ended.

I didn't mean to start a pissing contest.  I love the ASAP plate, probably will never ever have a problem with it.  I am just someone who plans for the worst, hopes for the best.

I will throw you a bone though, and a possible thought. If you do want to cut down on wear or noise for that matter, or something to that affect go to the hardware store and buy a can of the shit you can use to dip tool handles into to replace the rubber coating. I can't recall the exact brand or name, but it's basically a liquid rubber that hardens. Rig something up to separate the ring, and the sling plate and dip it. If you don't like how it turns out, you can easily peel it off. Not sure how how well it would wear, though.

Just looked, it's called Plasti-Dip

I apologize, I am just making a big deal out of nothing.

I have seen the light.  It has to be metal on metal anyways or else it won't slide/move freely and would get hung up.

Exactly, and you aren't going to wear out the steel components in the life of 5 or 10 slings. Don't worry, the reason you buy Magpul is because its solid, and reliable.

And in this case, relatively inexpensive.  Maybe the OP should buy three more and when the current one wears away in about 100 years, he can have spares.

First off, don't cut anything.  We built it the way we did for a reason.  Any noise made by the ASAP and sling are at best miniscule.

Oh, and this is not GD so no more dick comments please.

Ok, I just got back to the range and I just want to say to Magpul and the previous replies (the relivant ones), "I'm sorry."  After using it for a couple of courses of fire, I have nothing but faith.  I guess it was just a little to easy to sit in my living room and question it before putting it to the test.
