I Believe he's referring to Travis Haley's "Battery Assist Device" that allows the operator to actuate the bolt with out the weapon hand leaving the pistol grip!

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm118/magpuldynamics08/th_BADmp1.jpg

Basically it allows for faster reloads especially when used in conjunction with a redimag system.  But the appendage used for the fire controls Never enters the trigger well adding for a extra layer of safety

It's explained below.

Watereddownevil, I'd love to get a hold of one of these as well

man guys, just make one! The video shows how it works and what it looks like.
It dosnt look like rocket science, its basicly a longer version of the kind you can get from Brownells or many other places, then just bend it through the trigger opening. Im not trying to rain down on anyone but this look very simple to make. who knows how long it will take them to release it! Im still waiting on there back up sights
Dont get me wrong, I have everything that Magpul makes for a rifle and they are the best company out there, but I wouldnt wait around for this when you could study your rifle take some measurements a fab up one of these in a weekend!
Just my two cents.

Pull the charging handle

Or hit the original bolt release, from what I’ve seen on the magpull dvd's its a separately attached piece.

It's not a battery like energizer battery assist.  It's a battery like bolt forward assist.

It's a ambi bolt release.

As for now we are not releasing any information on products that may or may not be in the works. We're always looking for new ways to improve on existing products and explore the boundaries of new ideas.  Thanks.

1) Show how it attaches to a standard bolt release.

2) Where in IN are you?

3) I am in for trying one of these out.

To all, nothing against MagPul, but I would rather they worry about getting caught up with the production of their other products.

very nice, did you just drill and tap your bolt release then?

That looks pretty good.  Get back to me when you make 2000 a week.

edit to add

Looks like you're threading the two screws into the bolt release?

There's no relief visible for it to slide over, so that's got to be the attachment method.

I think the big question is: Is going Magpul to make such a part available to the general public or not? If the crew at Magpul had this idea I would wait for the part made by Magpul and would not purchase one made by someone else.

Im not making them to sell, I just made one for myself because Im sick of getting teased by Magpul about all the cool
toys they have prototypes of. I hope Magpul dose release it but how knows how long that wait will be.
I just got tired of them saying look at the cool shit ........but wait you cant have it yet!! So I made my own.

Those aren't made for lefties. They're the same concept as Magpul's except Magpul extends theirs to the other side of the trigger guard where it's much easier (and safer).

Pft. Magpul will wait till AFTER they release the Masada before shipping out the B.A.D.s.
They're probably sitting on boxes of these things!
Ambi bolt release: one more thing the Masada has over the AR15, one more reason to buy the Masada

Jokes aside, the B.A.D., and Masada for that matter, look awesome.

Dang, I thought that I was gonna be all cool and drill and tap a short bolt into the Sureshot Entended Bolt Release!  Some people are rolling at whole different level than others!!  Forget it, I don't wanna post pics of mine, now!  Thats pretty cool, jessea!

Nope.

Hawkeye,
Do you happen to have an image that shows how that attaches to the bolt stop?  Also, does the BAD bottom out on the lower at some point so you don't end up with rather significant leverage forces breaking the bolt stop?

Wes

Looks like it slips over the bolt release and then uses the set screw to tighten it down.
12/9/2008 2:11:31 AM EDT
[#39]
Your right it clamps around the bolt release, But on mine I have a MUR upper and there is extra metal around where the bolt release pad pushes in to the upper. It dosnt look like there is room to have something slip over (or around) the pad. That is why mine is bolted derectly to the bolt release. Plus its peace of mine knowing that it is not going anywhere....solid as a rock and works smooth as silk.
Ill get some pics. of it on the rifle as soon as I can.

where in brownells can I find the one that's made for lefties (not magpul)?

Its a two piece design that is milled out to fit around the bolt stop, then the two piece are held together with the screw. The bolt stop moves just as far as the lever, so there is no chance of breaking it.

Awesome.  Freaking awesome.

I'd happily put one of those on my AR as soon as I build the damn thing.

So that's two seperate magpul black projects now?

1.  B.A.D.

2.  Some sort of single point sling.  In the video clips released thus far it shows Costas with a neat looking sling.  When asked about what sort of sling it was DrDrake politely refused to comment in a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" kind of way.

They've also probably got a plasma rifle in the 40kw range in there too.

What would really, really be badass is if they were working on an optic, a pistol and a shotgun.

Here's a good start for the DIY guys. I guess all you'd need is to extend the bar under the trigger guard:
