| IIRC (from an earlier post), installing the ranger plates & the magpul followers results in no loss of capacity, but installation of one of these (I forget which) causes a loss of a round or two to overall capacity in a 30 round mag. is this true? |
| Part true. Some of my USGI mags will still hold 30 with both installed, although I only carry 28 in the mag for duty loads. If you look around mag compacity has been discussed to no end. Some are pro 30 some 29 and some 27. Whatever, everyone has their preferences. I would not let the -1round discourageyouy from getting the ranger plates and enhanced follower. Good luck. |

So, installing a ranger floorplate alters the capacity to 29, but adding their follower may/may not restore the capacitry to 30 rounds? What about installing the Magpul enhanced followers alone? Does that alter capacity or are the mags still at 30 rounds capacity? |

Assuming the folllowers are installed in USGI contract 30s, I don't see why it would depend on the mag. Okay = Sanchez = Parsons = Center = Labelle = etc. If we were speaking of the condition of the mags on the other hand, I could see how that could play a significant role. Again, I'd love to know if the addition of the floorplate alone alters the capacity. I haven't heard/reead anything yet that directly answers this question and this was my impetus for posting. Thanks. |
The reason that the compacity is affect on some mags and not others is due to the manufacturing differences. Even though they are all USGI mags some of the grooves on the sides of the mags may be ever so slightly different (even on new ones). There are tolerances set by the manufactures. Therefore this causes the rounds so set on top of eachother differently. This is not something you would know until you untill you try YOUR mags out with the Rangers of new followers. You are right about the condition of the mags. As far as just installing just the Ranger plate you will see a loss of one round (29). If you choose to install just the follower you will not see a loss in rounds, at least should not. If the mag is damaged you may see a loss of a round, although I've never seen this on the 50+ mags I've rebuilt, including some that were in shitty shape. So that being said with both Rangers and followers installed you'll see at least a loss of one round. Hope this helps out. Let me know if ya got any more Q's. |

I had bought 3 NIW Center mags a while ago. I installed the tan followers. On two of the mags I was able to load 30 no problem. The "odd ball" would only take 29. I cut a little off of the follower and now it holds 30. All three have the Ranger Plate and the Anti-Tilt Follower. |
Sicne you crapped in this thread, i have no reservations in doign so myself. It's a fricken 30 round mag. It hold 30 rounds. The only thing that will wear a spring out is cycling the spring. how many rounds do we load in the military? 30. How many do i load when plinking? 30. how many does the mfg recommend loading? 30. So, if you're using a follower or floor plate that makes it physically impossible to load 30, hten do what is necessary. But there is no fathomable excuse for loading less than 30 rounds in a 30 round mag. It 's a fix for a non-existant problem. To each his own. But the "really should be" is bullshit. |
