...A chrome lined bore? My LGS has a DTI echo 316 for $750 and I'm thinking about picking it up. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the fact that the bore isn't chrome lined. I'd also prefer a 1/7 twist on my barrel but I can live with DTI's 1/9.
PSA has a great sale on their website this weekend but I don't think I want to wait, I'd rather go to the gun shop and pick up a rifle and take it home then and there. So please, help me make up my mind. |

Haven't checked this thread since the .308 was going to be a no-show...... Anyways a chrome-lined bore is for corrosion prevention and barrel longevity. The importance depends on what environment you expect to be using the rifle and whether you're good about cleaning / lubing AND how long you want it to last, what kind of ammo you're shooting, etc. It's all a balancing act where you may lose a tad bit of accuracy but gain longer material life. My next builds I'm going with nitrided barrels. When nitriding you gain the material longevity of chrome lining without potentially sacrificing anything at all on accuracy.
Truth be told, with everything else being even most won't be able to shoot the difference between plain, chrome lined or a nitrided barrel so unless it's a match / long range accuracy build I would make a decision on a price / longevity value point. Anything you purchase from DTI should serve you well. They come in at a great price / value point. Look forward to the pics .... |
