Greetings Del-Ton,
I recently received the lightweight upper assembly I ordered, and I must say, the fit and finish is first rate. There is one issue that I am having with the upper. When I took the rifle to the range I had to pretty much bottom out the front sight post to get the rifle into the black. I am using a detachable carry handle for the rear sight. The one on the rifle currently is new from Spikes Tactical. I tried the carry handle from my other carbine which is the cardinal forging mark and still was not able to get the sight post into the black without bottoming out the sight post. I posted my problem in the build it yourself forum, and the consensus of the collective is for me to file down my front sight post. While this will work, I think that there must be a better solution. If you could post a suggestion, I would really appreciate it. Thanks very much Ron Walsh |

OR are you sighting in at 50 yards, using the appropriate targets? even if you dont have a F sight base, you should be able to sight in. I know, because i have both base types on my deltons and both have carry handles from 2 different manufacturers. sorry i didnt see your question earlier, ive been without a connection due to the cable being down in my AO. my suggestion to you is that you use the RIBZ sighting in. read this thread http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=328143&light= and you will have a better understanding of how this works. I see that you are USMC and i have the highest respect for you, however, not all of you .mil guys are taught this. using the RIBZ method will give you a little bit more adjustment and may allow you to not change sight post heights, but so you know, two different heights are used and using either is acceptable. |

OverScoped,
The Marine Corps has been using a zero method similer to RIBZ for 20+ years. Our A2 and A4 rilfes were setup with the -2/-3 rear elevation after delivery. They would be zeroed at 36yds at 8/3 or 6/3 for a 300 yard battle sight zero, then you would back down to -2/-3 for 200 yds and under. This was designed for M855 ball so for other ammo it has to be tinkered with. I am sure the young Sgt of Marines will, with proper reflection and mentoring, find a conclusion to his problem.

He asked for suggestions and that thread has lots of info that may help him. |

Thanks all for the suggestions. To clarify, the upper has an F marked FSB, and I am using a carry handle at 6/3 -2 (currently). The only range that I have that is close to me is an indoor range (100ft), so I may have to do some adjusting on my carry handle. Again, thanks to all for your answers.

Are you aware that carry handles have double clicks in comparison to the fixed. So the -4 would translate to -8 i also would check to see what front post you have and if it is the taller type, get the shorter one. ![]() picture credit goes to http://www.ar15.com/member/member.html?id=28568 |

Ron,
I just got a DTI LW as well - less then 2 month old. I'm running a Magpul BUIS on the rear. My front post is almost bottomed out. I wouldn't be scared to take a little of the top of the post if you can't get it down. I zeroed mine 2" low at 25 yards & it is hitting 8" steel at 100 yards consistantly using 55g 5.56 UAE surplus. Since it is a home defense rifle; I figure that would be the best comprimise for a zero. Thank you for your service! |
