That's right.  I'm headed to 2nd Brigade.  How long after your BOLC 3 ended did you start Ranger? 2-3 months?  Honestly, I would rather go to Airborne first to get in another few jumps while at Ranger to put me that much closer to jumpmaster.

3-4 months I think.

Jumping at Ranger with a weak body spells injury. Both my jumps got canceled; air force doesn't fly on 4 Jul and hurricane rolled through florida. your unit probably wont sent a new LT to JM upon arriving. But 82 jumps often so you would get your 12 or whatever it takes.

Go to airborne, no one likes NAPs at Ranger.

Everybody here is saying if you get any say, don't go airborne first, because if you aren't airborne you get a bus ride to the DZ, which equals to a little bit more sleep.

There are certainly ups and downs to jumping at Ranger:

Ups:
2 extra jumps towards the 15 you need for JM

Downs:
Chance to get hurt/recycled
Loss of sleep on the bus
3 weeks in Airborne to recuperate from Ranger.

Either way I am sure Mother Army will decide for me.

Ranger is great for armor officers because we get relatively little dismounted training prior to getting deployed as a dismounted force.  As for the airborne thing, that's really only an issue because i am going to an Airborne squadron.

As for sending you to schools...a lot of it depends on what they have slots for, what your unit wants you to have, and how much time you have.  I have a buddy going to the 101st as a 19A.  He will most likely pick up AirAssault school.  My buddy going to 1st cav would have a much harder chance of securing the same slot.  Snowbirding at Knox sort of sucks because there aren't that many schools to go to locally.  This resulted in a lot of guys doing combatives 1 and 2.  Down at Benning there are so many random courses many have not heard of (Airborne of course, Stryker leader, mechanized leader, Anti-tank, sniper emplacement, etc.) that are relatively easy to get slots for because there are slots that commonly go unfilled.  If the options are LT having PT formation then the rest of the day off of knocking out a 2-3 week course in which he will learn something, the choice should be clear.

You are considered "Ranger qualified". I am just the opposite - I was a Ranger as an E-1 through E-3 (went through RIP at Ft. Lewis in '81) but never got a Ranger school slot before I PCSed to the Pathfinder section at Ft. Hood, TX. While there, I was a Pathfinder but our section had no Pathfinder school slots. So, again, doing the job but not "qualified". Then I got sent to Korea and learned how to drink Soju and mess with bar girls. Totally different experience in a leg unit. LOL

Yes you are IMO. It says Ranger on your left sleeve, you earned it if you made it through.

Ive seen shitbags in all units and ive seen great soldiers in all units, tabbed and untabbed. Regiment in my eyes doesn't make you a Ranger just because you're surrounded by more tabs than regular units.

I actually hated a lot of Reg guys in school because they thought they were the end all and the shit. When in fact they survived peers only because they had their other reg buddies there to save them. These were mostly all lower enlisted on RIP contracts. Not a real display of the 75th I believe.

That being said I still want to get to Regiment because many do work hard and I want the good training they are provided with and high OP tempo they provide.

Summary:
You're a Ranger if you pass school.

Since the war AR officers going to light units at places like bragg, campbell, italy, hawaii have a better chance to get slots but not all get them. IN officers have guaranteed to get slots.

Also has to do with funding, my class got 13 slots for Ranger. The class behind me had RSLC and Ranger slots then they were all dropped and no one got anything cause funding was dropped.

Luck I guess.

I agree with a lot of what you say but I'll fall back to the old saying "there are tab wearers and scroll bearers".

Graduates of Ranger School are most certainly Ranger "qualified" but until you wear the scroll, you are almost like a "five jump chump" but one who has actually had some real training and experience that can be shared with other Soldiers.

FYI, I graduated Ranger School as a PFC with 8 months in 2/75, this might explain my prejudice.

Boomer, best of luck in your quest to get to a Battalion!
