What's the modern graduation ceremony like? My son will graduate next month and I'm wondering if  the graduation ceremony is still a pretty big production? I'm asking because looking at the training schedule, it looks like only one company begins training at any one time. When I graduated at Ft. Leonard Wood back in the 70s it seemed  more like an entire battalion was on parade for graduation.

The reason I'm asking is because I have 3 daughters that are also considering driving down for graduation. If the ceremony is like I remember it, with the bands playing marches, the troops passing in review, etc.,  I'd really like them to experience the whole thing. If it's not that big a deal anymore, I don't want them to go through the hassle of finding babysitters for the kids for damn near a whole week in order to make the trip. I KNOW he would appreciate them being there either way, but between them they have 7 little ones and finding sitters ain't easy. (Especially with Grandma and Grandpa off the list)

Any recommendations on a Motel/Hotel while we're there?

And "YES", I do plan to make a stop at the CMP's South Store on the way home.

Thanks in advance!

when i went through (about five years ago) it was one company at a time. They did an infantry demonstration, running down positions (squad leader, etc.) after having them do a mock "assault" (jumping out of bradleys and running towards the audience screaming and firing blanks set to AC/DC). Then they did a little thing for Drill Sergeants of the cycle and then had the cord ceremony. (family was invited to pin on cords, then return to the stands). All of that was after the standard invocation and speil from the commanders. after the pinning and the family has returned to its seats, the entire company dide push ups in unison and then pass and review.
from the guys i have spoke with who have went through recently, not much has changed. YMMV.
edit: thank your son for his service- you raised a good 'un!

Nope, no infantry. He goes on to Arizona  for AIT to fly UAVs.
