I just took command of one of the Stryker companies in my battalion. It just wasn't working out with the other commander and he was relieved. It is a good company, a lot of veterans and the 1SG is squared away. It is the same company that I was a PL in during my last tour. It is an honor to be chosen and an even greater responsibility.

Congrats!!

Remember it's about the men... sounds like you have a good group.

Congrats!

I am on my second stint as a commander as a CW2 thanks to our lack of company grade officers.

It is damm rewarding, but a whole lot of work. I came into it from a similar circumstance, previous commander was not working out and was killing the units morale and abilities.

I have enjoyed it, but it is about time for me to get back to running my shop and platoon- and my replacement might be another foum member here. But I have 29 years left before my MRD, so I am sure this time will not be my last.

Congrats. I hope you keep it.

Within a month of taking over a troop, I was told that I was going to lose it again for a deployment. (Unit being scattered to the four winds by platoon).

My 1SG took over the month before, he's no happier about it than I am!

As a long time former NCO and a year away from retirement, it's all about the mission and the Soldiers. My career doesn't even figure into the equation.

ffemt11b, yes, we will be coming to a JSS near you soon.

Congrats, Company command is probably the highlight of your time in, from there it just starts going down hill.

Congrats.  It seems as though your men are in good hands. (now don't fuck it up ).

Seriously, it seems like you've got your head on straight. Your men are lucky to have you.

Congrats.

I served with a striker company (engineer attachment) in Mosul 2006-2007 that used the Apache callsign.  Am I thinking of the same company?

If you were a PL in this company during that time than I have probably met you.

I'm in a Stryker unit also.  I thought all Stryker units were considered cavalry?  And, as such, it would be a Squadron, not a Battalion.  That's the way it is in my unit anyway :)

Only the RSTA squadrons in the SBCTs where they also have 3 rifle battalions, or 2 CR in Vilseck.

3-2 ID myself....

1-14 CAV (RSTA)
1-23 IN
5-20 IN
2-3 IN
assorted elements

First time in an actual squadron.  I was in an INF Batt. in my last unit.  They run shit weird here, takes a while to get used to.

This is our first dance with the strykers, I was HMMWV mounted infantry in Bayji last time.

The 56th SBCT has the following battalions.

1-111th IN (my battalion)
1-112th IN
2-112th IN
2-104th CAV
1-108th FA
328th BSB

Not the unit that I was thinking of.

Bayji JSS was a festering shithole that swallowed engineer equipment like Oprah swallows ice-cream.  I swear, the SECOND time the insurgents blew the shit out of that place we should have left it.
