I talked to an AF recruiter last week about going back to AD. He told me I would have to go through MEPS again AND reapply like a fresh recruit! I can understand having to jump some hoops but, shit I've only been out less than 6 months. Is this just the AF or is it common practice for all branches? |

Sounds like you spoke to a recruiter that doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. You may have to go through MEPS, but otherwise, you're not treated like a first time recruit. Try again with a different recruiter. Maybe your local reserve recruiter knows better, too. CJ |

Hell no! I talked to an Army recruiter about going back into AD from the USAR and he told me that I would go in as a reenlistment and would be able to retain my Spec4 rank, even get my E-5 within the year and keep my old MOS (MP). I think you talked to the wrong recruiter; go to another recruiting station and get a 2nd opinion, I'm certain you'll get a different response to that. |

If your willing to wait until tuesday, I can email one of my buddies that pulling recruiter duty at the moment. You also have to realize that the reason you may have to do everything over again is because the Air Force is trying to reduce the numbers of personnel AF wide. I know that in 03 they weren't accepting prior AF enlisted, but things have probably changed since then. |

Thats strange, in the Army I believe you have up until 6 months to get back in once you've ETS'ed before you would have to jump through some real stupid hoops. My thinking on the recruiter that you talked to is he wont get his numbers for the paperwork he has to do on you. I know USAREC is always pushing its recruiters for high numbers. You don't go to MEPS, you don't go to basic, he dosen't get his numbers I guess. Get a second opinion. |
What he said. |
| ANIMUS- if you have a recent PHA on file you should be good. Thats all I needed for the Guard. I see you're not the only one who's thinking about the good old days. I'm not too hot about the Guard myself. IM me and I'll fill you in. MEPS shouldn't be too bad. You did it once already. I think the AF is treating you this way because you got out once already and they want to see how serious you are about coming back in. |
Same for the Reserves. I just signed papers with the Reserve recruiter today. I understand the whole force cutbacks situation. I just think the MEPS and application process is gay. No slots for me fine, I understand, but rolling through all that other bullshit blows. All they have to do is look at my 214, personnel file and medical records and see that there's no NJP in my history or medical problems. Having to fill out a complete first-timers background history and shit is stupid. I've thought about getting a second opinion for the Army or Navy. |
