I just finished up osut Friday and found out I'm going to Korea for a year.

Is it possible to volunteer to deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan from there? If so, how would I need to go about doing it once I'm there?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

My advice is just suck it up and go to your unit and learn as much as you can since your striaght outta basic, OIF and OEF are not gonna end anytime soon you'll get your chance(s).

Your time Korea will fly by and once you get to your next duty station you'll get fragged for deployment before you know it. Use the time in Korea to learn your trade and it will make you a better soldier once you hit SWA.

What's your MOS? Do you know where you're supposed to go in Korea?

Put in for a transfer, use to be called a 10-49.

When I went to jump school, (1966) we were asked for our choice of assignments. I put in or Vietnam, I got the 82nd. Evenyone who put in for Vietnam got stateside assignments, eveyone who put in or stateside units got sent to Vietnam.

It took me several 10-49s but it paid off, I was sent in Jun 67.

Good place to be. They closed a bunch of the area one 1 camps. When I was there we would take the bus to camp casey because up on the dmz sucked. You will get some good training. Like the others said watch out for Soju and Kettles. Have fun.
