I'm looking for some manuals or propaganda put out by terror groups or governments that the US may be facing soon. Reason I am asking is because I was assigned to teh S2 of our college Ranger unit. No, we aren't Ranger Challenge, we are just an advanced ROTC club who like to do more than jsut the requirement. Anyways, as the S2 I am going to be working in OPFOR and am responsible for giving the guys the best training that they can get. Does anyone know where I can find this type of material? Obviously places like youtube or liveleak have alot of videos that the Terrorists have put up but I am looking for actual published doctrine... or does that even exist? As you can see I'm in need of help. Thanks! |
| its always changing and the problem is these fuckers are not well trained, well most arent. you can predict what a real soldier will do these guys are different. most will constantly retreat, so when you flank they arent there any more, snipers that are close, fire more than once and rarely move, and RPGs are common. small groups of 2-5 that dont work in conjunction. and insurgents mixed with civilians thats the worst |

Well, there is a start. Attack then retreat. Use sniper attacks to fix soldiers in place. Use simulated RPG attacks. Work in teams of 2-5. Disguise themselves as civilians. Also, have OPFOR act as spotters to gather intel on cadets/soldiers. And my favorite. Aquire or make quality training aides. Make RPG launchers out of PVC pipe and a couple of auto funnels mounted end to end to simulate the war head. Make some AK47 replicas from wood, etc. Make IEDs that have a bright light to simulate an explosion. |
Let's hope no else trys to do this, at least in real life. |

All, thanks for the input! The link to the AlQueda training manual should help and the FMs should as well. I have an AKO account, can I view and download the FMs from AKO? In regards to the book Learning How to Eat Soup With a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya and Vietnam by LTC John Nagl, it is an excellent book. I had the privilidge of reading the book and actually met LTC Nagl at a conference at my school. Talked with him for awhile and gained some insight on how to win against the insurgents. We've got a pretty big ROTC department here and we actually have a few dummie RPG launchers and the idea about making IEDs with lights and such is an awesome idea, never thought about that one. I'm going to take a look at some of the books and see if we have any in our library. Were also meeting with some of our Cadre who have been there, done that and have the tabs/patches to prove it to get some ideas on how to run it. |
| Good job trying to stay ahead, man. New troops need that, especially troops who are going to be leading troops right out the gate. Work hard before you even get in, strive to stay ahead of the curve, and keep your people motivated. Laziness is contagious. Don't give them a chance. I applaud your effort. |
