First off, I am fourth generation U.S.Army, it has been family tradition. I am proud of that. I have two sons, and my oldest has expressed interest in enlisting. Five years ago, I would have been behind it 100%. Today I can't support it. I feel that the American people have let our military down. This is not a Bush bash, It is a Bash of America. We have taken our finest people, our military and put them in a position that they can not win. We have given them "rules of engagement", allowed the media, congress and the left wing in general to have way too much influence on how this war is fought. I am not saying the war is lost, I believe it can be won. I just don't believe that the American people have any interest in doing what needs to be done, so it can be won, and our people can be brought home. Half the country wants to keep them there forever, and allow them to fight a fight that the locals are not willing to do, and the other half wants to pull them out before the job is finished for there own political gain. They want them to lose , so they can say "see we told you so". They are not going to give them the support they need to win. I can not allow my son to be put in a position where he may find him self in prison for doing his job. Am I wrong here? Maybe some of the guys who have been over there recently can tell me I am wrong. What do you guys say? |
You need to read my post, I am not saying that this is not a righteous mission, it is. What I am saying is the military, from what I read, and see has been handicapped by a bunch of PC bullshit, and a bunch of un-amercan scum bags who want us to lose, so they can gain policitally from it. That I do not want to put my son though. Do you understand where I am coming from? We have 8 Marines sitting in the brigg down in Camp Pendleton, that no one gives a shit about who instead should be getting awarded for a job well done. What the fuck is wrong with this picture? And don't say its all the Democrats fault, That's bullshit the Republicans don't have the guts to do whats right and stand up to them, and the American people are to fucking busy watching American Idol to care. Sorry for the pissed off rant, but this is my son. He feels he has to do his part, and I respect and admire him for that, but I am having a hard time with it right now. |

Roger that I felt kinda shitty asking you , this board lately has been over run with trolls just posting anything that will get a rise. You were a new member and you posted in a section that would not appreciate any bullshit. Now to answer your question on whether your sons , if they choose to enlist and serve is it a good idea ? Your point on America not supporting the war effort is correct , and sometimes it seems our boys are told to go fight a war with one hand tied behind their back. I too get frustrated at how the media will convict one of our boys so quickly. Your questions are valid , when one your sons tell you he wants to enlist and enter this war. I know if they choose to enlist you will support them 100 % , that I'm sure. It's a tough question you pose here. And hopefully more can add some insight on it. |

Sorry for getting so short with you guys, and I understand where you are coming from. I was not trying to stir the shit. I really don't know what answer i was looking for on here. I just know this has been on my mind day in day out lately. It pisses me off too no end when I turn on the TV and see some asshole like Harry Ried running his mouth and saying the war is lost while we still have people fighting it. I can't believe he gets away with that. And I wonder why the President doesn't tell him to STFU. And the media, who's side are they on? Its not ours. No one seems to give a shit. I still talk to some of the guys I was in with, but like me, they are all out now, and have no idea what is really happening other that what they see on TV which is probably 90% bullshit. I have no doubt that our people are kicking ass, they are the best.. Our people kicked ass in Vietnam also. It could have been won in 1968. I just can't believe what happening to this country. I don't know what to think. To me he is still a kid, but I look at the photos I have of when I was in, and we all looked like kids. I don't know. This crap just gets me down. Thanks for the responses. |
I agree with most of your thoughts, things have gone to hell in a handbag but, If my youngest son wanted to enlist I would be all for it. (my oldest son did serve in the USMC) I would encourage it because enlistment is for his benefit as well as the country. He will meet and work with some of the greatest Americans we have, he will gain expierience's that will last him a life time. Fuck Reid and the rest of em, your son will be glad for the rest of his days to have served. I served in a very unpopular war and after all these years I still thank God for the Men I served with and knew as brothers. |

I understand your frustration. I also know you will support your sons for whatever they decide to do. My biggest frustration is having to dig for the truth with what is actually being accomplished over there. Our media invests itself into showing ied's and body bags only. The ROE have been too PC for many decades. What are you going to do <shrugs> I invite you to check out Pat Dollard. He was a Hollywood Lib until he took a camera to Iraq. His "sig line" on his website reads...Prepare to have your opinion of this war changed forever. We just need to support our guys and gals....they just want to finish the job. Period. God Bless you and your family. And thank you for your service. |
My opinion is that you're going way too big picture on this. Regardless of the political climate, your son will be supported in his organization, and they will accomplish the mission that they're given. Chris |
I aprecate all the comments, I had a good talk with him today. I told him I wished he would go to school, but I would support him ether way, just let me tag along when he talks to the recruter. Then he drops the bomb, tells me he want's to go into the Coast Guard! I felt like a dumbass, it never occured to me that he would want to be anything but Army. All those years of asking me, "whats this like, and what's that like". Hell, the thought of him being in the Coast Guard kind of scares the crap of me. Those guys do some crazy shit. |
