I was glancing over my DD214 recently and noticed that it indicated that I was qualified as an 31F2P, which of course I understand what that is, but it also indicated that I had an "I" identifier for intellegence, are there any personell types out there who are familiar with that identifier?

I thought ASI's were made up of two digits. You might be thinking of an SQI. If that's the case, then the "I" signifies an Installer. See below.

I Installer

a. Description of positions. Identifies positions that require assignment of soldiers qualified to perform installation and or de-installation of electronic equipment (normally fixed station) systems or subsystems on a full-time basis.

b. Qualifications. Must successfully complete the Basic Installer Course (BIG) at USAISC, Ft Huachuca, AZ.

c. Restrictions. Installer positions will be classified in an appropriate MOS code, normally maintenance, consistent with the standards of grade in paragraph 3-7. SQl I will not be used to classify positions lim ited to setting up portable equipment or for positions limited to admin istrativeclerical, supply, or support of the installation function. Authorize use for MOSs associated with CMF 29, 31, 33, and 74 only.

Nah, I never went to any installation course (not until after I got out), I will have to get it back out, I remember it was just an I, and I believe the term "intellegence indentifier". I don't even remeber which part of the form it was on, I want to say it was in the same block as the schools I had been to. The only ASI I ever remeber earning was a V4, which was deleted before I was discharged due to the skills laerned being added to the curriculum at the basic MSE school..

Not always. I was looking at my MOS and noticed that it had a letter onthe end, which was strange because I didn't attend any ASI producing school.

The 'D" meant no ASI awarded. Go figure.

I was looking mine over and I should have a D3 asi but its nowhere to be found

19D D3 = cavalry scout with bradley qualification.

not a big deal since I never was assigned to a brad platoon.

Who knows. I know that ASI's have changed over the years as some are phased out. While I was a 13B I had an ASI of J4.  That one no longer exists. Or at least it dosn't apply to Field Artillery anymore.
It's possible that the "I" identifier no longer is used.

ASI's are a letter and a number. if you have a number only after your MOS that is the skill level you were in at the MOS.
e.g. 11B10 is basic Infantrymen skill level 10 (E-1-E-4) the only ASI for a Bradley MOS is for Bradley Master gunner. otherwise its just a plain ole 11M10-40 Skill level 20 is E-5/skill level 30 is E-6 and skill level 40 is E-7. They got rid of 11M and made everyone 11B whether your mech, Light or ASSLT or Airborne.

and looking at mine again, I should have a 2C ASI for javelin gunner school.  not there, bums me out a bit.  time to fill out a DD215 and rectify that problem.

Many times when the Seperations folks type up the draft 214 they use a computer printout that lists all your assignments and the skill codes required for the slot.  Ive seen major screwups from this system.  Folks sloted in a V coded slot, but not Ranger Qualified end up Ranger Qualed on the 214.  Another big one is the S identifer for Special Ops Support folks.  At one time the S ment that you were Special Forces qualed.

You might have been in a slot that required that ASI and it got put on your 214.

Also when I outprocessed in early 2001 any combat related courses were not put on the 214.  Thus if you graduated from a non badge producing course (Sniper, SFARTEC, LRS Leaders)there was no way it was going to be listed on the 214.
