Definitely get your Dive Cert, Okinawa has some really good diving. One of the best perks of my naval career was getting sent to some of the best dive spots in the world on the .gov dime.

Well, if it's like I remember. (put on pt gear) Go to the front gate, past the bowling alley. Take a left on the sidewalk and start running, I think its like 4 or 5 miles around the base. Half uphill, half downhill. The first part is uphill. Then you level off for a while. Then you go down hill for a couple of miles after your legs are on fire. Harder running down then up.

I hated that run. My barracks was the top building squarely facing the ocean. After the run we had to run up a vertical road that led around to the right of the barracks (used to be called Sgt. Mjr. Hill, Rumor was that a Sgt Mjr. had a heart attack running it )

Actually, you need to get a car. I picked one up for $500 in 92. The Island has a lot more than BC Street and Whisper Alley.  A car is freedom!!!

There are a lot of cool places to dive. We found an old deserted base that we could just park at and walk out into the ocean from the beach. Got our dive gear from MWR.

We found the place below north of Camp Hansen and spent a lot of time there.  Wish I could give you directions. It's litterally right off a road. There are ropes tied to trees to help you find it and make it back out. But it was like a theme park carved out of rock.

Have fun. Save your money. Drink on base if you drink. Keep away from the hookers. They're older than your grandmother.

i was there around the same time as you.  In fact, we all went to that same, secluded lake as well.  Our paths might have crossed.  I was on Camp Courtney from 91-92, then Foster from 92-94.  Semper Fi.

Holy shit, I have been to that swimming hole. Somewhere is a picture of me making that jump.  I was at Schwab like 91-93.

Things have changed a lot in the past decade. Theres a new liberty policy and all junior marines need to be in every night by midnight.
Things have become a hell of a lot more strict on island because stupid people make stupid mistakes. I can't get a car until i pick up e-4
and that isnt happening anytime soon. I'll try to make it out to camp hansen to find that spot though. It looks absoultely amazing.

The only pussy my platoon gets is when they deploy to phillipenes or thailand for a deployment.

Thanks for all the advice though. Not a lot of marines in my platoon do more than drink.

Change your location to Japan for one...
for two... feel free to IM me any questions you have. I have been here for 6 years now, There about 5 ARFCOM members here on island, three AF, 1 Army and I believe there is a Marine here somewhere.

I think maybe Aha Falls?  Not sure though.  Great place to spend the day, especially when you have the whole place to yourself.

People either become religious, strong or drunk when they get to Oki.
