Hey, a couple years ago I got stationed overseas in Germany and sent my guns to my Dad to hold for me.  I shipped them from California via Fedex to Washington state.  He picked up the weapons and the firearms dealer said that he needed to transfer ownership in order to pick up the guns.  He did that.  So he's been holding on to them the last 2 and a half years.

Well now I am home (honorably discharged) and I want to pick up the weapons and move back to Califonia (to go to college there).  What do I need to do if anything at all?  Thanks.  I know the weapons are CA legal (since I bought them there originally).

Should be as simple as a Gift from Dad to Son...Done.

ETA: that is assuming you are heading back to Washington state first, before California. If he were to ship them into Cali, then they would have to go through an FFL, and transfered back to you.

Yes, I am in Washington state right now.  I called a local gun shop and they said the same thing that you just told me.  Thanks for the confirmation!

since you are not a resident of the same state the guns will need to be shipped to an FFL in your state and you will need to do a transfer there.

I may be wrong but I'm 99.9% sure this is how it has to be done.

What are WA state requirements for residency? Since you are separated from the Military, and back in your home of record, wouldn't you default back to being a WA resident?

Depending on how many weapons are involved, a Road Trip may be in order.

I assume no California "defined" AWs are involved?

This is of course unless he changed his state of residency while active, although why somebody would switch to California I have no idea...

In any case I would simply look up the Washington state laws for a FTF transfer, or go ask the guys over in the Washington State HTF.
