Got a LEO.
Uses his badge to get out of a DUI while driving dept vehicle, gets suspended by the dept without pay for it. He lost his badge, poof, gone, can't find it, got a replacement. Repeatedly reprimanded for agressive driving and caused two accidents. Repeatedly described in fitreps as setting a poor example for junior officers. Failed to wear protective gear at a meth lab and got hurt, got reprimanded for it, whined there was no SOP and got reprimanded again after being shown the SOP. Failed to show for an assigned eval. No excuse, just didn't show. Described repeatedly as unenthusiatic, slow, unable to function without prodding, and unfocused. Quits every day at quitting time, right on the dot. Doesn't complete assigned paperwork or tasks, has prosecutors complain that he screws things up for them. Everything is well documented, everything is demonstrably true. Opinions? Thoughts? |

Union? FOPA member. Time frame of problems?
Years and years. Counseling and adequate documentation?
Repeated reprimands. 428 pages of file. I would easily move to terminate him.
That's what I said. Appaerntly I am a meanie of some sort according to co-workers. Oh yeah, I forgot. He has a history of falsifying vouchers and has been caught multiple times. Each time was just admonished. |

Fire him. The documentation is there. Retaining him is either good old boy stuff or union bullshit. My vote goes for "good ole boy stuff" or as another poster put it the ability to suck the chrome off a trailer hitch because this type of record is beyond the ability of a union to cover for. If he has been stopped for multiple DWI he is probably an alcoholic and nobody is really doing him a favor by letting him go. This guy would get 2 choices: retire immediately or get fired. |

For his own good, ya know? |
| It may be because I'm new (and I mean FNG), but if I saw a guy like that that I worked with I would be sick. This is the career I always wanted and to know that there are people like that in it infuriates me. In the Marine Corps. we'd call him the 10%. I don't know how many are truley out there (like I said I'm new) but I hope its not many. He needs to be fired, fast. |

Sounds exactly like a deputy I used to work with. Can't go into detail because the family's lawsuit is still pending, but the end result was the death of a 20 year old girl because the deputy (now retired) was drinking on duty and bucking calls. |

Just my opinion, but if he's been there for 20+ years, he has a right to slow down..... That being said, laziness is NOT acceptable,,, especially when you screw over your brothers by doing so....
Make him drive a desk 'til he comes around... make him take all the BS reports over a telephone... a few weeks/months of shit duty will usually straighten someone out.... If that much stuff has been documented about him, he no longer cares what new pages are added.... the only way to get to some people is by hitting them in their wallet. How about a day off for each new incident? There are many ways to discipline someone short of termination. Please don't be quick to end someone's career over "relatively" minor things... It's not like he's committing crimes on duty, he just may be a lazy piece of shit... Now if he's a new, probationary officer, screw him... He hasn't yet earned the right to keep his job.... Again, just my opinion.... |
