I am sure that all of us in the field go throught equipment year round so:
What name brand boots last the longest? I myself have destroyed Bates boots in 4-6 months, Magnums kill my feet, and Timberland seems to fall apart. Anyone here have any 511's or even Danner's? I am in need of a new pair soon so why not ask before I buy (again)... Tactical boots, zip up sides ? The more info the better! |

blackhawk - FTW mine have lasted for awhile, but i'm sure you can find them cheaper somewhere else.... now go hit mine... www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=76&t=869204 |

Danners.
That is the only answer to this question. I have 3 pair. One is about 8 yrs. old. They have been resoled 3 times. Never had any of them fall apart or experience the problems with the other boots. They are heavy and stiff, at first, but I have never hurt my ankle, since I switched. |

I wear the danner stryker in the summer months and the acadia in the winter months when I am in uniform. They are the most comfortable and longest lasting boots I have ever worn. I've tried bates, 5.11, and Ridge and they all wore out in about a year. The danner's are a little more expensive but last much longer. |

another vote for danners. I wear the stykers also, but the only thing I do not like about them is that they are not resole able. I have a pair of acadia's that have been resoled and are still holding up. J- Like he said... can't be resoled, but I've had mine for a year and they seem to be holding up just fine. I wear mine in woods & fields mostly, so maybe if I was pounding pavement all day it would eat the soles quicker, but mine were comfortable right out of the box. I'd buy another pair. |

Check out Redbacks, lots of FF's are wearing them! They have a couple of models, the most popular is the slip on, but they also have a heavy duty zippered boot that is very long wearing. Both styles are off the chart comfortable.
Also Haix is making some very good duty boots, probably the closest I have come to finding the perfect duty boots. |

I had the 5.11 ATAC Storms for about two years and I really disliked them. They weren't horribly uncomfortable but they were extremely heavy. That may be par for the course with water proof boots though.
The side zip is nice, but I don't consider it a necessity. After everyone else pushing Oakley boots down my throat I finally decided to try a pair. I've had them for six months and they are by far the most comfortable boot I've tried so far (compared to 5.11 and bates). I don't know how they'll hold up in the long run. I had to run through about 1/2 a mile of thick thorned brush that pulled the threads and material from the boots - I cut the material back and used a lighter to burn the ends. That was several months ago and they are still holding fine. Three weeks ago my boots were soaked completely through. They were dried out and are still in one piece. I will stick with Oakleys until someone can convince me that something else is more comfortable. They are cheap too, 100 bucks through US Standard Issue. |

Danners
I bought two sets of Danner Acadias in Dec 01. I would use one pair for a few days then switch out on my days off. They lasted until last January when I finally replaced them. I still use them once in a while for training days or when it rains and I know I'm going to get muddy. |

I have been beating the hell out of a pair of Original SWAT 6" for a couple of months now, and really like them. I don't care for the side zipper, but I bought them on a whim and that's all the cop shop had in stock at the time.
Magnum/HiTec has really gone down hill recently. |
