My BIL is graduating in two weeks and was wondering what you guys think would be a good gift for him, looking to spend under $100.
Thanks |

Awesome guys, thanks for the info
I told his wife to get him this Gerber Rescue Knife |

If she hasn't already gotten something he might like this. They can be hard to come by though. If she already got something she could get this in the future. Ben Franklin firefighters medal

Channel lock 6 in 1 rescue tool
This is what I carry as my main pocket tool. Its a bit on the large side as it barely fits in my thigh pocket, but I wouldn't want to be without it. I like the fact that I only have to look for one tool most of the time. I also carry the 6 in 1 screwdriver that tango mentioned, as well as a good rescue knife and trauma sheers. |

I loved the look of those, but from what I've heard they won't fit into a standard pocket. |

Personally all the tool ideas (multi screwdriver, cable cutters, linesman pliers folding spanners) are great ideas. I just bought a couple of these yesterday for some of our new graduates, and one to replace an older version of a tool pouch. I just don't load it that much. http://www.ritbag.com/products/9/bunker_tool_organizer.html Available at the fire store for about $27.00 |

It would be nice if they were about two inches shorter though. I have all my tools set up in a "pocket protector" made from a cut off peice of 2.5in hose folded and held together with zip ties. It makes it handy so I don't have to go searching around for the right tool. It also prevents my pliers from wearing a hole in my pockets. I'll have to get some pics and post them on here. |

Quoted: Been carrying the Gerber the day I started...still has not let me down. Wire cutters, flashlight, knife, tools could save his life, or assist him in saving someone elses. All great gift ideas. http://images.gerbertools.com/Lg/1916_1/07520G_Gerber_Multi-Plier_600_Basic_Blunt_Nose_Black_w_Carbide_Cutters_w_Sheath.jpg Nice tool. One of the guys at work got me a "butterfly" opening sporting version with an LED light for our holiday exchange, but confessed he had gotten it in a hurry (and getting something a little more suitable to our job would have put him well over our suggested price range), so he included the reciept and suggested I get something a little more heavy duty. I had a BPS gift card from the kids from last year, so I took the two and got this: The Gerber Flik ![]() It has the ability to be opened into plier/cutter mode with one hand (a must in our line of work), and all the fold-out tools are on the outside - no need to have to open the tool to get to the others. I love my DET, as well as the replaceable carbide inserts on ones like yours. If they could make an outside opening EOD version with replaceable carbides? I'd buy one in a heartbeat. |

Buy him one of these where he always has a personal tool for ingress and egress, these are the shit and will last a very long time. http://www.firehooksunlimited.net/hooks.html CAPTAIN'S HOOK - A new style officers hook, this one is 24" in length and has a chisel end for prying. Made with a roof hook head and celtex grips, a "baby roof hook". ![]() |

I carry mine in the left chest radio pocket (wear radio on a radio sling) and I have not had any issues getting it out....packed out or otherwise, and I DO use my chest strap. I also wear Morning Pride. I say go for the 6 in 1. |

Since all the good gifts were already covered, I'm gonna suggest a tungsten carbide halligan. Shouldn't set you back more than $10k and it would never scratch! There was actually a source for a Ti Halligan bar, which, except for the advantage at times of a heavy bar, was pretty sweet concept-wise. Of course, the $480 price tag was a little daunting.
