So I am meeting with a Border Patrol Agent to do a reference check for a friend that I used to live with that is going to be joining very soon.
Do any of you feds know any kind of questions they will be asking me about him? I'm assuming it'll be a little more in depth than, "on a scale of 1-10, how much does he love America", ya know. What kind of responses are they looking for? |

You are probably meeting with a background investigator with the Office of Personnel Management, or a USIS investigator. They usually do the background investigations for the BP.
They will probably be asking questions related to what kind of person your friend is. How long you have known each other; are you aware of any criminal activity, drug use, etc... Stuff like that. What kind of responses are they looking for? They are looking for the truth. Be honest in your answers. |

Probably exactly what you'd want to know -
Is he alcohol-dependent, or a frequent heavy drinker ? Is he dependant upon, or a habitual user of, prescription medications of any kind ? Does he use illegal drugs of any kind, either habitually or recreationally ? Is he a habitual gambler ? Does he suffer from any other type of addiction, to your knowledge ? Is he deep in debt, to your knowledge ? Is he "tempermental," or prone to outbursts or "moodiness" ? Does he belong to any organization(s) that you might consider to be "radical" ? Would you describe him as "a good family man" ? Would you describe him as "patriotic" ? Stuff like that, easy stuff. |

Everyone makes mistakes and certain things Agencies are willing to overlook. But they want someone who is making good judgement decisions in their life as this usually translates into work life. Emotional maturity. Not someone who is still hanging around family or friends that are making poor choices...this shows the Agencies that the canditate isn't emotionally mature enough to make good decisions in their life which means they probably won't on the job. |
