My FTO was telling me about it. he was telling me about a rookie who opened his door and got it knocked off by a passing car. then he laughed and said you could be on there... I backed his car up (it looked clear) but someone had knocked a sign down and the pole was sticking out. He now has a perfect little hole in his bumper to remember me by.

It's no different than working in the "Real" world when they get released off FTO. We live in the video age. EVERYTHING I do is assumed to be being video'ed by somebody. I act accordingly. Part of the FTO program is placing the recuit in stressfull situations, and evaluating their performance. We'll have to watch the show, and see how much BS is introduced into the process.... |
I watched it Thursday night (I think), man, that one guy acted like he had zero training. (the one with "female Terminator") His first traffic stop and it turns out to be a federal agent. The guys says "I need to tell you I'm armed", the rookie looks at the FTO and gos "ah, you wanna handle this one" At least he wasn't the kinda fruit cake who draws down and starts screaming and yelling because he found an armed motorist.

I caught an episode on A&E last night and really enjoyed it. It also had a cop who seemed like he had no training, but he didn't get a traffic stop with a federal agent. They did, for some reason, let him go in a house on a raid with some other cops, where he ran right by his FTO instead of handling the guy that should have been his responsibility (he was last in). He also got a 60% on his 10-code test (don't you have to know those by the end of the academy?) and spit on the ground at a homicide scene. It said at the end of the show that he quit the following week or so. I'm really looking forward to more episodes. |

Somebody tells you that hes armed on a traffic stop. Have the person produce ID/creds/License.
'Officer, I am a federal agent with (insert agency).. here is my department ID'. "Ok sir, be safe and take it easy". I'm not a big ticket writer myself. Some cops that I work with think that it's their career duty to write up every person for the most minor BS infractions. I don't see the point in being a big time ball breaker. I only write if somebody does something extremely stupid and reckless in my presence. A lot of times, I think a warning is more appropriate than a ticket. I appreciated the warnings I got for minor traffic infractions before I was hired. |

Yeah, I was surprised the fed didn't say he was, untill he was back at the rear of his vehicle and the rooky says "ah, he's armed....... do you wanna handle this" and "female terminator" says "yeah, I see that, what's up with that? Why do you have a gun and handcuffs?" I am surprised that the LEOs both were easy going about it though. I kinda figured they show them proning him out or something. |

That's because one does.
A customer of mine is from Tampa, about half hour from my shop and was just on the show, he FTO's there. He said in the next episode one of the guys gets killed. He was also talking about the dipshit who couldn't remember all of his codes and showed his ass a few times and ended up quitting after 1 week. He said after seeing 3 dead bodies his first week he couldn't imagine doing it the rest of his life and was out. IIRC, he was a restaurant manager or something to that effect before going through the academy. |

Anyone have any links to where I can see this online? I googled and yahood it but couldn't find any. You can download them from the iTunes store. The first episode is free. Anyone know where else it can be seen for free online? I'm not at all interested in joining itunes and giving them my credit card info, but I'm having a hard time catching the show when it's on. Thanks |

The next episode looks like a rookie gets killed. God that sucks. First month I was in the academy we lost a deputy from my dept due to a car crash. The entire academy went to the funeral, I lasted all of 10 seconds after making it into the church before I was streaming tears. Open casket with a video montage playing, moment I looked up there were the pictures of him in the academy with a huge smile in every single picture. Yeah, I won't be able to watch that episode. About 3-4 months till FTO for me. |
|
I just watched the first two episodes. Good stuff so far, seems like they try to do a compare and contrast between a good rookie and a not so good rookie in each episode.
And that one guy talking trash about his female FTO, I can't imagine he will make it very far at all. That doesn't seem very bright to me. |
| Just saw the new episodes tonight. Officer Josh Norris went through his training and had his problems like anyone else had, he got his act together and was shaping up to be a great Police Officer. Shortly after Officer Norris was on the street alone he was dispatched to a domestic dispute call with his old FTO as his back. His FTO lost sight of him for less then a minute when multiple shots were fired, Officer Norris was struck once and died onscene. Everyones worst fear came true for Officer Norris that day, he paid the ultimate price and should be remember for the hero he was. RIP Officer Norris you wont be forgotten. |

Not sure if thats the same video as from the show, but I know a few guys who were friends with Josh. I didnt know him but I watched that video on shift last night, it was rough. |
| No that was a different video then the one from the show, yours gave a better insight into his background and showed his story better. Officers like him are my inspiration and heros, and i can only hope to one day answer the call that they bravely answered. Stay safe everyone. |

The end of that show really took me by surprise and was tough for me to watch. Deputy Norris was in the same position I hope to be in in about a year and it really hammered home the fact that yes, I could get killed or one of my best friends could get killed.
His FTO at the funeral tearing up was especially tough to watch. |
|
I watched the show also––sad story––even sadder at how common it is, and how quickly and easy it can happen. To those hoping/working towards a law enforcement career I say this..whenever you get the chance––honor you fellow LEO's by going to their service. Funerals suck for sure. But you don't go for the departed, you go for their family, their kids, their parents and the co-workers and team mates they leave behind.
Good cops get killed even when they do things perfect. T1 |

I went through the academy with a former restaurant manager and he was fired after his first day of independent patrol for wrecking a car and lying about it. I'm starting to think restaurant managers aren't cut out for police work.

If you listen to him telling the story, he arrived on scene after Deputy Norris who was already approaching the residence. The other deputy, Norris' old FTO, was approaching behind concealment and heard the shots. Please, don't start throwing blame around. |
