I have a question for anyone who can help. My command wants’ to send me to a HAZMAT school however they tasked me with finding the school. My work runs the RADCON and DECON for the base. At this point other than Fed Fire we don't have any subject matter experts in the Chem/Bio DECON aspect. Any know of any schools that teach this and certify people in it other than CBRIF? Thank you |
LOL what a joy that was.... |

Look here: cdp.dhs.gov/ You want the ER HAZMAT Tech class. It's a 40hr OSHA 1910.120 HAZMAT Tech class. It was developed at the request of HDS (the bomb tech school) in Huntsville, AL. They are now requiring that new bomb techs become hazmat techs. It along with all other class that the CDP offer are free of charge to "First Responders" That includes room, board, books and pre-paid air fare. Check it out when you get time. **disclaimer** I am a part-time employee of the CDP, the above class is one that I do teach in. I work for the CDP in my off-duty time. |

You might also want to check with the Washington State Fire Marshal and any local FD's. they might be able to steer you in the right direction. Here's the link (through the WSP for some arcane reason): www.wsp.wa.gov/fire/hazmat.htm There's course info for Technician and HMIC there, and I'm sure there are regional offererings someone can steer you towards. |
