It's things like this that make me glad I'm off the street and working plain clothes.

Friday afternoon, time to go home, and the interstate is backed up for miles.  It seems  a woman driving an SUV and a motorcyclist were exchanging words and gestures on the access road.  We've all seen it - two people get into a pissing match at 70+ mph and each one has to have the last word or the last middle finger.  Problem is, the SUV driver was also transporting 3 kids.  The motorcyclist took off at a green light, and the SUV driver decided she wasn't done.  She took off after the motorcycle (that shows you the mentality right there, what SUV is gonna catch a motorcyle that hauled ass?), ran off the roadway, over corrected getting back on the roadway, and crashed head-on into an oncoming 18-wheeler.  3 year old child, seat belted but not in a car seat as per state law, killed on scene, SUV driver and other kids seriously injured and transported by air.  This woman ended up killing her own child because of road rage.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the older I get the less I like people.

Nope, her child paid the price

Sure people driving can piss you off, but these minor traffic incidents will not harm you.  Everyone will live and go home to see their families.  Leave it at that.  Why is this concept so hard to comprehend for the rage-prone ones out there?

Well, some folks do attempt it, with plenty of failure of course.

I have a 4 year old and she is the first thing I thought of when I read this.  What a stupid bitch....She has to live with this every day now.  If she is as ignorant as I think she is, she doesnt think she is at fault.  I hope her husband divorces her. Now.

Whatever caused it, her kid paid the price, but road rage is always the dance where it takes two to tango  (and both drivers always say the other one is the crazy one).

When two people who believe giving the finger is the ultimate insult, whether they are sending or receiving it, meet, road rage is the inevitable result.   Third graders controlling dangerous objects.

I just don't see why people can't relax and just drive.  jesus, is 5 minutes worth anyone's well being or life?  I I35 is like mad max the road warrior these days.  If you are going the speed limit you better hug the shoulder.

I just don't get why you would ever get in position like that with your kids in the car, why you would continue a verbal arguing in front of your kids into a race.  it just seems so absolutely mind blowing to me.

Well DAMN!

First of all, I maintain the viewpoint of, "Well, if it's that important to you, Go ahead, Have it!"

I think it comes down to two main things. First of all, I have enough stress in my life and I certainly don't want to add to it. Secondly, having something of a deadly force rating on two classifications, it's "don't get into fights."

Which does generate the question in this case: this is Texas, was she packing? I mean, even if she was, we don't know what her intention was and I'm certainly not anti CHL, quite the opposite, but if she was, then that's another reason to avoid road rage and also, if she was, then the situation was pushed counter to the CHL lessons. Ie, everything they teach to prevent situations from becoming a shooting situation.

Finally, and I don't mean to steal your thunder (if that is the word for it) here, but did you mean by the plain clothes comment that you don't have to do the actual accident scene? Just noted because I recently, yesterday, had to go back over a nasty child abuse case history, and between that and this, it reminds me another child abuse case that came my way when I was the senior military police officer for the region.

It's lousy stuff. Patrol, detective, leadership, it still gets you at levels. Even if you don't see the victims directly in some cases, you see the victims directly in other cases, such as domestic violence.

Being in that world consistently, one probably will like people less and less. Take a break when you can to remind yourself that not all people are miserable.

You think it is because of something they put in the water?

I was in Austin yesterday on the feeder road to a mall on one side and on/off ramps to 35 on the other. A big SUV from the mall pulled right out infront of a large pickup truck. Then, when I had moved into the on ramp lane, would have physically shoved my small SWUV out of the way had I not retreated to the right lane. Then he pulled a sharp right in to the next mall entry drive.

I had seen road rage before, up in Cedar Park, but this wat the first time I had experienced it, so it didn't quite click in instantly. Ie, at the time, I was wondering if the guy was drunk or antisocial as in "the rules don't apply to me!".

Of course, unfortunally, I am sure it is not located to one region.

But all the same ......................
