Just a quick question. Any LE people here that have ever heard of a person getting bronchitis from pepper spray? |
The combination of the two - asthma (and resultant poor exhalation) and OC might lead to such a situation. I've never heard of it being a "common" side effect. |
|
Long story short... About 6 months ago I was pepper sprayed at the academy. One week after the OC I started having problems with breathing and coughing. One week after that I went to the Dr. and had bronchitis. For the first time in my life I was put on 4 prescribed medications for about 2 more weeks. Now the department I work for wants me to be pepper sprayed again so they can have it on video for "legal" reason. I am a bit hesitant about it. I have had blow back pepper spray since then, but not a full facial spray. |
I hope you have a good union/PBA. Is that some sort of preventative mea culpa to show the lawyers suing that you've suffered too? |
I'm finding that hard to believe. The upper and lower airway structures are lined with mucous producing cells. It's kind of like Doritos, eat all you want we'll make more. When you get hit with OC/CS/CN the passages get irritated and produce copious amounts of mucous. It does not inhibit the production or stop it at all. If anything(I would hazard to guess) it increases it until the irritant is gone. Hence the voluminous amounts of snot blowing out my nose whan I was OCd and tear gassed at various points in my life(training only, I swear) |
