We have 2 at work now. One of our supervisors saw them in a gear magazine and thought they looked "neat".

Are you referring to the Pelican 7060? If so, they are quite good lights. I have two myself.

Yep. We have the rechargeable d-cell mag lights now and they are the only "impact weapon" readily available for line staff.
I hope the LAPD lights aren't a replacement.
They are a nice bright light for illuminating things but as a defensive weapon...
