Well, we started our newest group of rookies on the PTO program this weekend......
Its good to have fresh faces on the streets, and I love teaching these guys (its a good change of pace from the normal day to day doldrum)- but guys, if you are currently in an academy or just hit the streets just remember that while your stressed learning all of this new stuff and trying to keep from getting into accidents, we are under alot of stress too.  So if a senior officer snaps at you, just remember that we are under stress too but we really do want the best for you.

Yup! When I was new I expected to get barked at so if it were to happen, I was prepared and would just get right back into th game & not screw up again. But, I got pretty lucky. I never got the full royal ass chewing.

And if I could add,...HEY NEW GUYS, keep your mouth shut unless you're asking questions & your ears & eyes open. And, when its time to sit down at dinner with all the guys that have years on you,...DON'T EVEN THINK you'll be "one of the guys" by being cute & saying stupid crap. JUST STFU!

We have a rookie right outta the academy, the kid's is doomed. It almost won't matter how good of cop he becomes, the dept & the bordering cities ones absolutely despise him. Arigant, mouthy, traffic nazi, Know-it-all.

This is despite a couple of the guys trying to tell him to tone it down & STFU on a few occassions. The dept powers that be are already trying to phase him out.

Sorry for the slight hijack, carry on

I can only imagine how bad it must be to be an FTO for a PD, I handled a lotta the EMS training and a little of the fire training of the new guys when I was a FF and it sucked.

I knew a deputy like that.  He's now in the jail.  he was so bad his dad the LT is the one that pulled him off the street after the kids THIRD FTO couldn't do anything with him anymore.  Worse yet, I had to hear from his GF all the time about how he was such a great officer and people were trying to hose him cause they hated his dad.

A good FTO wants to teach you what you need to know to get home safe. You don't learn the read street in a classroom.
