I recently got my newest crown vic, a 2006 which came with a plastic molded trunk organizer. This thing is completely inefficient at using the trunk's deep space for storage. The organizer only stores items at the very bottom of the trunk, leaving more than a foot above the organizer of unused space.

I have an issued vehicle, so daily removal isnt an issue. Ill most likely have this car for another 3 years. Using bolts to secure something to the bottom of the trunk also wont be a problem.

What's everyone trunks look like? Deep rubbermaid storage bins? home made compartments from wood?

If you have pictures, lets see them.

No pics yet (pain in the ass to dig the camera out) but I use the storage totes with the removable lids.  I am a Crime Scene Tech with alot of extra equipment, so trunk organization is a must.  The totes are square and stack real easy and neat, plus they can be labeled with tape or permanent marker.

Just my $ .02

Your system must not work that great !

I use a foot locker in the trunk for all of the "occasional" things, the rifle is in a padded case between the locker and the rear of the car.  All of the "everyday" stuff (including camera) is in a bag on the front seat.  I have a take home, but it's nice to be able to pull everything out for when the car goes to the shop or I have to drive a pool car (read "When I hit another deer")

My rifle is up front with me in a rack.

But my department isnt computerized yet, so paperwork organization still takes up alot of room. Statute books, charge books, policy/GO books, blank paperwork, past few months cases, map book, citation books..

pain in the arse!

LOL, I guess I should clarify.  All my camera equipment is in a big Pelican case...plus its a professional outfit, not a digital point and shoot.  Sounds like you have the same trouble we have in NW Indiana....too many damn deer!  We have had several cars damaged in the past month from hitting deer, including one totaled out when he hit one at 85+ running to assist a fellow officer calling for help.

Edit to ad:  We are computerized, so I don't have alot of extra paperwork other than UTT and Warning books, witness statement forms and such.

I found that it was a lot easir to compartmentalize things with different types of duffel bags instead of rigid containers. (mostly)
I organize in order of importance ie. what will I need REALLY fast vs. what can I take a secon to dig around for.
I have a flat 'under the bed' tupperware type thing that fits the bottom of the trunk pretty well.  It holds my chem/bio PPE.  This protects it, and keeps it in a place where I can just drag out the whole thing and have it all layed out for use. On top of that I have all of this:

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9529/trunk1tj6.jpg

1.   slide out drawer for car cleaning supplies (gotta keep the tires sparkling)h3.   on the side shelf, crappy plastic riot helmet, jumper cables, fire extinguisher and bolt cutters
4.   admin bag with books, law digests, binders, directives, ticket books etc.
5.   hanging folders in a nylon carry bag (very cool, from Staples) with forms and paperwork
6.   First Aid kit in surplus mechanic bag
7.   tool kit
8.   box-o-flares
9.   Level III 'oh shit' active shooter vest with spare ammo attached and big-ass pry bar on top
10. Perimeter/'Bug out' backpack with power bars, water bottles, ammo thigh rig, gunshot/trauma kit, bipod, spotting scope, ear-pro, spare portable battery etc.  makes a great sandbag benchrest
11. Evidence kit with drug tests, latent kit, gloves, bags, scale etc.

On the trunk roof:

Shot with Canon PowerShot A520
bungees streched across hold:
old 'gonna get hit by cars' traffic vest, eye pro, rain gear, flex-cuffs, brandy new special 'wont get hit by cars' traffice vest

Hope this helps!

Hey you got your STOCK number in the picture.  Hope Chief Manger don't see it.  Also join SERT so you can get rid of that crappy brown riot helmet.

This was my Mach1 work car

I now use a Chrysler 300C for work.  I have quite a bit more trunk space and have added more of my gear since this photo.

You had to use your spare tire?  I've never seen one that dirty.  A lot of dust, but not mud like that.

I really hate to see fire extinguishers foolishly laying around in the trunk.

These need to securely mounted in a solid steel bracket bolted down.

Oh my gosh a full size spare tire.  The majority of cars have the tire under the cargo space.  Does the Crown Vic have this space too or only in the civilian models?

I don't know about the civilian models, but I would assume they have the same space.

as far as I'm concerned, it's WAY too dangerous to have a donut on a police car. Many times you have to change the tire on the fly... (damn Murphy!)

Absolut...that is a serious safety issue.  Find out who did your install and get that fix ASAP.

All that loose wiring should be properly terminated and wire loomed.  I use to dabble in the 12volt car audio stuff back in the day (former job) and that is a half ass install job whoever did it.

Ok...back on the topic.

I use 2 Rubbermaid heavy duty containers for my loose stuff.  I also have a clear container for all my chem/bio warfare gear.  The bag next to it on the left is my first aid kit.  The bag to the right is my range gear.  I use an old .50 cal can for a tool kit.  Next to that is my gas mask bag.  I found a mount for my fire exting so it is finally secure.  Next to that is the hat trap for my campaign cover. and my Kevlar helmet.   The next pic shows my Pelican case.  I have my rifle inside in a rack but if my car goes down I need this case to throw it in so I can keep it with my in a pool car.  On the trunk lid is a spare vest and my canteen.

We are not issued spares.  They get stripped off the new cars to be used as tire replacements.  If we have a flat we contract a company to come out and replace it on the spot.

Does anyone else carry a sledge hammer, haligan, snatch strap, bolt cutters?
I used the sledge the other day to open an apartment on a 911 assist. The snatch strap is for emergency metal door/window grate removal, as are the bolt cutters.

I also carry a large first aid kit in addition to my active shooter bag which rides up front with me.

I am looking for a better way to carry the snatch strap. Anybody got any ideas.

Yes I have used one for that in the line of duty. Our policy is on a 911 call, if we are sent and no one comes to the door, we are going in. however we can get in. Im looking for a lock pick gun, pics, to carry to cut  down on replacing door frames.

I just know Im setting myself up for jokes by living up to my screen name, but here goes:
Pick guns are a gimmick.  The CAN work, but are very overrated.  Get a basic set of picks and some DVD lessons.   I suck at it, but I try, and have gotten into a couple of doors. Also, whats a snatch strap???

A nylon tow strap with hooks on both ends. When hooked to the crash guard/push bumper, it well snatch a steel door off in a hurry. We used it on a barricade one night during a swat op. but I carry mine in case we need access into something like that for a fire or active shooter.I think it would work great on a set of chained school doors, if they arent chained up tight, like at Virginia Tech. I also carry Poly SHok rounds for a shotgun, they are useable as a breaching rounds. I have used the tow strap to pull one of my officers cars out of a stuck situation.
