![]() I can't believe depts. up north aren't using the taser. It's prob. one of the greatest inventions for LE in the past decade or so. |
You're nuts....I'd take all the OC you got plus a beanbag round to the gonads before I get hit with the taser again. |
LOL!! |

If they offer the clips or getting hit with probes during the exposure, take the probes. Yes they will stick in you but the skin is "traumatized" by the electricity so pulling them out rarely hurts. The clips can arc, which hurts and leave a burn. I took the clips thinking it was better, and its not. You will learn in the school if you can hear popping/snapping the connection is not as good, which equals a arc. Our dept does not allow us to probe the students so we have to clip them. Too bad admin won't take a hit, they'd probably allow the probes then. Enjoy, it's better than OC! |

Seen a few people tazed. I'm getting ready to enter the Detention Officer academy for Maricopa County. The DO's now carry tazers, but they don't get to take the ride anymore. I have a video of my best friend tazing his wife for training. She's mad I have a copy. I'm surprised she didn't shoot him later that night. I thought she'd shoot me for watching it. My roommate took the ride and would rather ride the lightning than get hit with OC. OC doesn't bother me that much any more, and CS didn't bother me much in the Army. I hear the Tazer "tingles" a little bit. I've been shocked by 220 and 110. I hate electricity coursing through my body in any amount, but I don't mind administering it at all to someone else. Good luck. |
Thanks for all of the input gentlemen. I have been OC'ed more times than I care to remember and...NO SIR, I DON'T LIKE IT! I'm really looking forward to the training but, the getting Tased part still has me a little "apprehensive" to say the least. I will try to post pic's

| Your instructor may or may not tell you this, but keep your teeth clenched. We had one guy not do that and the fillings in his upper and lower teeth arched. I remember the smile on my instructors face. Kind of like new and improved Joker products, if you get my drift. He seemed a little to happy to be doing this. We had the clips, no choice. It hurt like hell but at least when the ride stopped so did the pain. I will take a ride on the taser over OC any day. I did not do to bad with OC but, I got re-infected when I got back to my buddies house to further decon. |
These threads always make me chuckle. Troops, before you actually take the taser to task on yourself fully, pop the cartridge out and have someone "dry tase" you, it's not the "FULL" effect, but pretty close. It will give you an idea of what to expect if you decide later to take it fully.

How ever bad you're thinking it is, it's much worse. Longest 5 seconds of my life. I still have burns from doing it two weeks ago. Some people said it wasn't real painful, just prevented them from moving, but I thought it hurt like hell. If you have the option of riding for 3 seconds instead of 5, take it. 5 seconds can be a really long time. The nice thing about taser is that the pain stops after 5 seconds. My eyes still burn from being sprayed 5 hours ago. |
I may have this wrong, but I thought Taser was about the safety of the officer and the suspect. Your department would rather you just carry on shooting suspects then Tasing them? |
I guess, that is what I thought. You would think that a reasonable person would realize that the Taser saves lives and reduces liability. |
We haven't had the public outcry (yet!) that you seem to have had over Taser. Maybe that will come if it is brought into widespread use (currently under trial/review). Seems stupid to protest against it though, if the alternative is to shoot with a firearm. With Taser the officer is actually put more at risk against say a bladed weapon or blunt instrument if he/she elects Taser, but what the hell, go back to shooting them!![]() I have noticed a difference in use though. Is a US LEO justified in using Taser purely for non-compliance, or does it have to be accompanied by threat from a weapon as it generally does here? |
I'm with you, I left NJ about 10yrs ago, was tired of the BS that the state mandated. I was scoring consitantly 98% and 95% on the LECR, but only put info for my local dept for residency requirements. I wanted to go the NJSP route, but when Whitman messed it up, it wasn't worth it. Plus, to many small dept in NJ, they dont work well together. No tasers and no Lasers for speed enforcement. |
That depends on the individual departments policies. We consider it a pain compliance tool. Same level of force as a oc spray. |
Hmm, it got messed up over here. We, as in the rank and file, consider it the same as you, but as it was originally only available to Authorised Firearms Officers, the bosses in their wisdom consider it too as a 'firearm', amd so treated it's deployment and use in the same way. Dickheads!
|
My department also puts it on the same level as OC. It can be used for active, but not passive resistance. ETA: Also, if the suspect is threatening you with a knife, we are told to shoot them unless you have lethal cover. If the suspect has a deadly weapon (gun, knife, club) the officer must have lethal cover to deploy the taser; if you're alone, they get shot. |
