I'll be attending for the first time this year and have a question about LE carrying in the District.

My carry rule is: "If I have pants on, I'm armed - unless I'm going drinking." Where can/can't/should/shouldn't I carry while in D.C.?

I know there are beer garden a-plenty in connection with memorial week and won't carry while participating, my question pertains to sightseeing activities.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to meeting some ARFCOM Brothers up there.

Didn't Bush sign the nationwide carry law for LEOs.

I think if you are goint to tour the Capitol....White House... and that type of thing you may want to ask.

I know the Holocaust museum doesn't want anyone carrying in there.  That is a pretty educational spot, that you may want to go to.

See you there......I will be the intoxicated one.......easy to pick out huh!!!

I know that in the past when I went down to the memorial service the carrying of weapons was really odd.  Some places would wink and waive you right in, other places, like the National Archives, held my weapon even when I was in uniform!  All I can say about carrying in D.C. is use discretion and be ready to give your gun up.

Wombat,
Check out www.policeweek.org

If you have a weapon on, just make sure your badge is on a neck chain when attending memorial related activities in the vicinity of the memorial.  Other than that, wear and carry just as you would whenever off-duty in street clothes anywhere else.
Yes, Federal buildings will make you give up the heater, but they will usually have lock boxes to secure it.
If a private business doesn't let you in, you either were not concealing it, or they patted you down at entry.  I simply don't patronize anyplace that won't let me carry or suggest that I, "lock it in the car".
During police week, most of the bars and restraunts close to the memorial area are very accustomed to all of us being armed.  Coyote Ugly's rooftop bar is a favorite of mine.  Since the infamous NYPD mischief of the 90's, we've all been very well behaved so even if you've had a few, simply having a holstered pistol is NOT cause for alarm to the local MPDC folks.

Enjoy!  Shoot me an email and I'l give my cell # so we can hoist a cold one.  The same Aussie Police folks that we party'd with last year are coming again this year, as is the contingent from England.  Good shits, ALL.
