| Our department is going to an issued sidearm. My problem is that we are going to be issued the Springfield Armory XD-40. Im leary of it because I do not know of any other department or military that issues this weapon. I have carried Sigs, Glocks, and Kimbers. All of which are tried and tested arms. If there are any officers who carry souch a weapon, any comments would be great. |

I have a XD45 5". It's a very good gun. I think of it like a 1911-Glock. I like my Kimber TLEII/RL better, but the XD would serve me fine if they said I needed to carry it instead. My personal preference is the XD over the Glock actually. I find the trigger better and grip more comfortable. But, that's just me. |

I'm assuming they're not giving you a choice. So drive on, shoot the thing a lot to develop your own confidence in it. My buddy went through the same thing on the Sheriff's dept. when they went to S&W sigma. Only he had tons of problems. Continuously had striker problems, he would get a shot off and the trigger would not be reset....bang, bang, <squish on trigger> nothing. The S&W rep came to the range with them and ended up "fixing" some of the guns. My bud's gun finally worked every time.......with a 18 pound trigger pull. My glock always works thank god, but I've had dumb dreams where my glock gave me the dead trigger squish. |

I know that The Wichita PD in KS uses the XD .40 and the officers can also choose the Glock 23 or 22. The officers who carry the XD .40 like it. It is by choice and not forced upon them. Kinda like Glocks. You either love them or hate them. Are they not allowing any officers to be grandfathered in? The XD seems to fit officers with smaller hands very well. |
I wonder if anybody ever got hurt because their S&W Smegma wouldn't fire. Before I started our department carried them. Somebody went to shoot a deer that got hit by a car. Click, click, click, click. Rather embarassing when the guy who hit it is waiting for you to kill it so he can take it home. What a hunk of shit. Makes me mad that that thing ever saw active police use. |
| Currently, Im carrying a glock-21 and have used it for 7 years with out a problem. It has digested over 7000 rds with out a problem. My complaint is, we can only carry a double action automatic. The XD is a single action. At best its a 1911 with out an external safety lever. I dont like that Idea. It looks like they are going to issue the troops a weapon and change the policy to fit what they want. Hell, springfield doesent even push the XD on police officers. They stress the 1911! I would be happy with a Glock or Sig. They are reliable weapons with a strong history behind them. It looks like we are going to the XD because they come with steel sights and glock charges xtra for that. I believe my life is worth more than a 100.00 upgrade. |
My department classifies a XD as a "Safe Action" just like a Glock. Kind of DAO, kind of not. The XD literature supports that classification as well. From what I can tell it behaves a lot like a Glock but has the grip safety. |
| The trigger only releases the sear and the fireing pin block, just like a series 80 1911. On a glock, the back end of the trigger bar pushes the striker back and then drops down to release the striker and the fireing pin block. There for, it does two actions. It cocks the weapon then fires it. Double action. Tripping the sear is only one action. That is why there is a striker indicator on the rear of the slide. To let you know the weapon is cocked because the trigger will not cock the striker. The glocks trigger is reset each time the slide is pulled back far enough. It is not dependant on recoil to cock the striker. The XD is. |

My glock always works thank god, but I've had dumb dreams where my glock gave me the dead trigger squish Me, too. I've never had it not go bang, what a fubared dream. I like the XD's, just not a lot of history behind them yet. I see more and more duty gear showing up for them. I guess it was an issue at first. |
You know what Freud would say about dreams featuring guns that dont go bang right?

its like a glock it just sucks more and is uglier![]() Just kidding, personally I like the glocks because I have owned a ton of them, mags are cheap and they work. XD seems like a rip off, the croation 9's were cool but that was because they were cheap, I dont see the point of paying 400 bucks more just because it says "springfield" |
