They are issued by the US Army. A friend who is in an aviation unit has one that was issued to him while in Iraq. A court officer and local PD tried to confiscate it but he presented a letter from his unit commander that it was issued property and that he was in legal possession of it.

You know damned well as I do that it would have ended up in one or the other's pocket if he had not come back to rightfully claim it.

I carry a "Robo Assisted" Camillus Blaze.  It might as well be automatic.

I don't know much about that but what strikes me as funny is that you can get a concealed handgun liscence, and arry a gun, but you can't carry a knife that has a spring in the handle that flips the blade out for you.

Maybe JIA can answer this, but I have been told that Austin cops will confiscate "assisted opening" knives. Is that true? I have a Kershaw Bump that opens with a spring flipper.

Don't know about TX, but in SC LEO, fire and EMS can carry automatic knives.  I've got a couple of them (Benchmade and Gerber), but to be honest my Kershaw Blackout is faster and easier to use without the possible hassles.

Whether or not some cops are that ignorant in Austin (or anyplace else...) is another question, but Kershaw assisted opening knives do not fall into the category of "switchblades" as you must open it using your own strength before the spring assists, not by simply releasing a spring held back by a latch.

This is definitely true in Texas, and, as far as I know, everywhere in the country.

They are perfectly legal, here in Florida...for anybody.

Auto-knives are illegal for the peasants in MI as well, however, LEO/EMS/FD get a free pass if we use them on the job as far as I know.
I have a Kershaw Blur assisted opening and it's just as fast as an auto IMO.

Ironically, we are a "shall issue" state for CCW.
