I'll post this here since these are legitimate questions and I want to avoid any cop bashing. 1. Do you guys now have rear facing RADAR? My father told me a LEO acquaintance of his told him it was so. Also, I have noticed some cop cars with a weird looking ball device in the rear passenger seat area inside the windshield. I swear I passed a cop a couple months back that was facing the opposing lane but at such an angle he could monitor both directions of traffic. He pulled out into my direction of travel and pulled some guy over. 2. How do cops pull over more than 1 car at a time? I have seen this A LOT lately. Basically, one trooper car with 2 or 3 cars in a line in front of him. If the cop is not directly behind me, I'm not pulling over unless he gets right next me and signals me over. How do you get more than one to pull over at the same time? |
Reference #2, I have motioned folks over and then ran down the second. It works best when the 2 cars are traveling together, as if family. I have pulled one over with the intention of hawking down the 2nd but they pulled over as well.... Some times, the first vehicle will slowly advance near where I have stopped the second vehicle, thus making my job eaiser. I have stopped the lead car and got out fast enough to motion the 2nd tail vehicle over... It's not that difficult.... Radar is a wonderful thing... coming front/going front/coming rear/going rear/same lane-same direction .... |
Good stuff. Thanks for the response. I can see your point when people are traveling together. Your point on the second car slowing down as you hit the first makes sense as well. Here's my question. Let's say I'm speeding on the highway, with another speeder in front of me, and you pull in behind from a speed trap. You pull beside me, motion me over and I comply immediately. The guy in front of me, also speeding, keeps going and you 'light him up' or motion him over. He also complies immediately. There is now AT LEAST a few hundred meters between both offenders. I'm sorry for being dense, but I just can't see how you get two (or even three) cars over at the same time in most cases. Unless, of course, people know they fucked up and pull over immediately for their punishment. |

To go into more detail...... I use the FINGER! It's a point (you) and a point (pull over) then so on till I'm through. It works better on streets than highways. I even pull my car over turn the overheads on and stand in the road pulling people over with the finger for passing in a no passing zone at a train crossing. (to clarify when the train comes through if people pull into the oncoming lane if our FD has to respond to a call the are blocked or they crash head on into cars turning from and intersecting street.) |
Well first of all, I have never stopped more than two cars at once... 2 is pushing the limits for officer safety let alone 3. As I stated above... most of the time the first car motioned to pull over will slowly move forward cutting down the distance. Some times they just sit still quite a ways back. The solution is simple... I make contact with the lead vehicle and obtain their drivers license and registration and tell them that I have another vehicle to deal with. I tell them to stay put and that their cooperation and patience is appreciated. When ever I have done this, what ever enforcement action taken against one vehicle will be taken against the other... got to be fair about it. If one gets a warning, so does the other. Generally, stopping multiple vehicles also works best when there is little to no traffic... For me, stopping mutliple vehicles is a rare thing. In a school zone, multiple stops are more common. |

Yes, we have rear facing RADAR. I typically use it when I see a car going fast and I couldn't get it with my front RADAR, so I tag it as it's going away. It is also useful for people who speed up after they drive by the cop. I personally won't pull over more than one car at a time on purpose. There's enough divided attention and people to control with the one car. Sometimes more than one car will pull over for me (or worse will pull in behind me to wait for the person I pulled over). I just send those extra cars on their way, usually. In this jurisdiction you are to pull to the right as far and as soon as practical to yield to the emergency lights. If they are several cars back you are still to pull over. If the cop doesn't pull in behind you then they aren't looking to stop you. It is just as possible they just received a call for service and need you out of the way so they can go help someone. |
I'd like confirmation of this. I'm a radio technician, and I just don't see this happening. It's certainly possible, but the type of equipment that would be needed just isn't something that a police agency would be buying and installing in a patrol car. Unless, perhaps, they were abusing one of those sweet Dept. of Homeland Security grants or something... |
I really don't know how it hapened, but I do know that the Troopers voice was load and clear over my speakers. I'm quite sure it was Georgia. Perhaps it occurs in the same way that people with over powered CBs transmit over TVs, drive-thru headsets, etc. No bloody idea. |
