I realize the potential for having to use any extra magazines for a rifle in a gunfight is slim, we train and prepare for the worst. How do you carry your extra magazines and or ammo for a long gun in say an active shooter incident, in patrol uniform?

I have thought of a drop leg rig with the attachment staying on the belt or a bailout type bag. But my question is I guess how many of you actually use one and has it been a headache or worth it?

At a class I attended recently the rifle rig I saw was two mags on a clip on Kydex belt rig and one on the butt stock. gave them four mags readily available and a shoulder bag with four more and a bottle of water and a spare radio batt. It seemed like a very practical set up. If the officer had to grab and go he had at the least 60 rnds.

I have a drop leg pouch for four mags.  I used a length of mild steel rod and made a hook that slips under my duty belt.  I made it like a "T" with the top doubled over so that forms a loop through wich I put the top strap of the pouch.  the tail of the "T" slides under my belt, from the top.  I can jam it in there and strap the leg strap later.  I can have it on and be moving in about five seconds.  when on, it hangs just ahead of and below my radio on the left side of my belt.

Very simple, quick, and cost me about 50 cents to make.

6 pockets in a mag sachel with a shoulder strap, for 10 30 rd mags.  (One pocket holds 4 pistol mags for the Beretta, ear plugs and a spare Surefire)

The pockets are mounted back to back, three to a side.

If you really get down to it,  I could club them with the sachel..
