I work in a very small community, dispatched by county LEC. at any given time there are 1-5 deputies on in the county and 2 more small town cops in the county. the "Big town" has their own freq to run on, rest of us run off the repeater system. I only have to monitor ONE freq, my repeater. but I monitor local ambulance, next door county's repeater, statewide, Troopers, the "Big town" and point to point. and if adverse weather is around i have the local EOC that dispatches all the spotters around SE MN. and the local Ham repeater for weather watch. that's about it. We have a 40 ch Johnson that's filled up with other channels, but jeez,, somoe one is always yakking then. who else monitors alot of channels? I think 6-8 channels pretty much covers everything I need to know. |

At work? Our Quadrant channel (Q1-7 Departments), and NIFERN (Northern Illinois Fire Emergency Radio Network - our mutual aid channel) if I feel like playing with the radios. At home? Q1 for the F/T FD, Q4 for the P/T FD... and NIFERN - that is, if my darling daughter hasn't unplugged the scanner or the cats didn't knock it off the shelf (again). |

Personally, I have zero interest in what other agencies are talking about on their channels, it doesnt directly effect my crew. When I go home, I dont care what the other shifts run for calls. If there is an incident that the men with the toilet plungers on their collars implement call back, hell has frozen over. |

I get alot of advance info from point to point and next door county. there isn't realy that much traffic on the air around here. at home,, i monitor my Ham bands, for recreation. but if my pager counts, i'll say ONE freq. off duty is OFF duty.. thanks guys, I was just wondering what the larger depts are doing, |
+1 I have enough on my plate just keeping up with my own business. I used to like to scan local agencies but over the years realized if something is going to go down, I'll be near the top of the list of folks who are gonna find out. |

We have 3 main patrol dispatch channels online during the day and 1 or 2 at night (Usually 2) which is about all my ADD self can tune into (or care to monitor). Add a slew of other channels for our Jails, Courts, Airport, SWAT, etc etc etc... We also have records and a couple of Tac channels. Depending on the call we can talk on all local towns, fire, state and Clemars. All these are programmed into our portables and main. There are close to 60 on my portable alone. I use about 6. |

We have one repeater and one car-car channel on main radio. I also monitor the other area Departments and Fire. There are six other agancies in my county (not counting Marshals). I like to know what is going on around me so my scanner is on most of the time. Steve |
I guess my area must be different. We might have state, county, city all in the same area, but the right hand usually doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. My agency is on an 800 mhz trunked system, but the rest of the world around us is VHF. When conditions permit, I scan my VHF radio in the event that: something is going on in my area that my dispatch is not aware of, something important is headed my way (pursuit, etc), or if another LEO needs assistance. I don't ASSume that information will be relayed in a timely fashion, if at all. I guess I just give a $hi+. |

Hmm.. we have a bunch available to us for dispatch for police, on top of that we can access our fire dept and every other city department (water, electric, etc), and even more available to us for mutual aid as well as monitoring/contacting most bordering cities and the county. And... the NOAA weather channel is programmed in so we can listen to that if we want to. The only thing I use that for is to set my radio volume. |
"Squad 51 , 10-4 ...KMG365" Yes, I obviously dont care about the community we serve because I dont care to listen to Johnny & Roy telling Rampart patient information. We dont self dispatch, so listening to that nonsense doesnt interest me, sorry this is taken as offensive. If another agency needs our help, they can broadcast on our frequency, or ask the comm center to dispatch. |
