I recently applied to become a police officer where I live and now things are really starting to happen. They called the other day and told me to come down next week for a conditional offer. This means that I have to pass Psychological Evaluation and a physical. I am not worried about either of those. I would just kind of like to have an idea of what happens during the psyhological part. Not that I think that I am going to fail it or anything, I just have never gotten a straight answer about this. Thanks.

I think he asked about the psych part.  In my experience the psych part has been scantron type questions and interview with the doctor.

Even in psych part I would recommend not lying. Sometimes people want to tell shrinks what they think they want to hear, instead of what they are really thinking (the same goes for pysch tests). Both will know if you're being deceitful, and it will screw you. Just be honest, and answer the questions presented to you. IMHO, it's really no big deal. Unless you're crazy....

Relax, you are supposed to be nervous.  You will think the tests are strange, but go with the flow and be truthful.

They are meant to weed out unacceptable canidates.  If it is "meant to be", you will do fine.  If you are looking for a "heads up" on the questions or procedures, you are barking up the wrong tree.

No I'm not looking for a heads up or anything like that, I am just trying to figure out whether what I have been told about it is fact or whether I am getting messed with. I fully plan on being truthful, I dont even want to try to lie about anything. I guess I am more or less so happy that I have gotten this far with this that I am just wondering about how others have dealt with it and what its like. I have no need tohave anyone tell me what is actually in the test or anything like that. Sorry if I seemed like I was fishing for info!

No a heads up, actually, more of the "do not lie," crowd.  If you get a question or two on the psych. "wrong," you will likely be called to talk to the shrink.   So what?  As long as you are OK, you will not have any problems.

Anybody remember the question on most of the old psych tests, "my stools are often black and tarry"? I never could quite figure that one out...hinking.gif You'll do fine, Archangel...just put down the first answer that comes to your mind..don't get into paralysis by analysis.

I actually enjoyed visiting with the shrink, seemed like a hell of a nice guy.  We talked probably half of the time about stuff that was off topic.  Very comfortable.  Just be open and honest.  They will ask you the same question 37 different ways in the written portion, so being honest is critical.
