Cripes, we pay $25k for new hires, and our cost-of-living is a lot lower than NYC.

Great place to visit, but I sure wouldn't want to work there.  Unless I can get one of those foot posts in Times Square.  Who'd I have to blow for that?

Trust me, footposts in Times Square gets old really fast.

This job is doomed fellas, piss poor pay will = lower quality recruits, I think I'll pass on the Sgt's exam....why would I want to be responsible for some future fuck ups? Time to seriously consider out of state agencies....Florida, Tennessee, or Maine hiring?

My Dept   ( Nassau Sherrif's Corrections ) did the same thing years ago

They upped the Top Pay and Lowered the Starting Salary

And then they wonder why they can't find people to take the job

If anything they should do the opposite. No raises for the top, double for the bottom - or maybe on the first step after passing probation.................

What's considered poverty level income for a single person in NY City?  Can you even live on 25k/year in NYC?

Brian,

No way! The going rate for a studio apartment in the outer boroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, S.I., Bronx) will cost you appx. $1,000.00 a month, and the average parking summons is $105.00......Everything else is just as expensive.....

ETA: Just to compare; the starting salary for an NYPD PAA (civilian clerk assigned to a precinct) is higher than the starting salary of a cop......
