Do any of you guys know the ballpark prices for having ladder/ hose/ SCBA testing done on sight? My department has always done most of this stuff in house, but now we're thinking about farming it out and want to get an idea of how much we're going to be looking at.
We have about 5-6,000 feet of assorted hose, 14 ladders, and about 30 (Scott) SCBAs with 65 bottles. Any help would be appreciated.  --ST

We have our ladders tested every two years and it runs around $1600 for two ladder trucks (110' & 100'), 7-24', 2-35', 7-16', 2-12', and 7-10' ladders. The company we bought the SCBA from does the testing for them and the price varies depending on what they are testing. Bottles go to their shop and they come to the stations to test regulators. We test our own hose every year.

Thanks for the reply man. I thought the ladders would be a lot more than that.  --ST

Never heard of farming out the hose... what would our chief have us do during hot days in July?

We shop out our packs and ladders - I'll try to get you a ballpark for the ladders. (BTW - in the old days we used to load the ladder with sandboxes - now the company we're using has a metered hydraulic come-a-long type unit the get braced under a wheel of their van. The ladder gets set of HD sawhorses and tested thusly.

BA's get tested by the company that sold 'em to us, and also maintains our compressor.

Where do you work SchlaffTablett?

I work for Saint Lucie County.

We test all of our hose, ladders, and Interspiros in house.
The head of the station maintinence department actually got certified by Interspiro to repair and service all of the airpacks in house also.

We do it all inhouse as well. Have a "ladder shop" w/ the equipment to test all ground ladders. Have an SCBA shop w/ 2 guys trained by MSA do to all scba work except hydrotesting of the bottles. Each company handles their own hose testing.

We do farm out the ladder testing on the five arials. No idea what the cost for that is.
