My wife is applying to several schools through out the south with most of them in GA and TN for her Doctorate program. I am just checking to see what the propects are for a guy looking to transfer  there from an Oklahoma S.O. I am also curious if my CLEET qualification (Intermediate Certificate) will transfer or if I have to go through the whole POST or whatever the state has again.

My background:

34 y/o
BS Criminal Justice - 3.2 GPA
15 yrs military (US Army Infantry, USAF SP, currently USNR Master at Arms)
3 1/2 years part time LEO
2 1/2 yrs full-time LEO

I am hoping I can make more than I do now ($2120/mo) since my wife can't work while she goes through the program. I have checked on some of the state job sites and I would really like to work for a state investigative agency, preferably a Bureau of Investigation or Narcotics, but a good paying city/county would not be out of the question. I don't want to be a trooper though. Nothing against them at all, but not enough of an interest in what I wish to do with my life (i.e. No tail light chasing..lol).

Any advice, hints, or help is appreciated. Thanks.

TN usually accepts other state certificates but the hiring agency must submit a waiver request.  The waiver then allows the applicant to take the POST test. If completed successfully you are then issued a TN POST certificate.

You'll probably need to look at agencies in or near the larger cities to get the money you're looking for.  Most agencies have starting wages much lower than your current salary.

Thanks for that inormation. I was wondering specifically about reciprocity.
