| I had a off duty encouter tonight and now that I think back I should have hooked 1 of the guys. My wife and I were leaving the movies tonight and as we were waiting to get out of the parking lot a truck stopped blocking both lanes of traffic talking to people we waited about 1 min then he moved, we turned down another isil behind him to get out and he stopped again to talk to people after 1 min I hit my horn. At this time there were 4 males and 4 females (including the driver) ad they started flipping us off and yealing F#$@ you to us. So I got out of my POV in plain cloths and Id myself as a officer and had my badge out, this shut the 4 females and 2 of the males up. The driver and his fat little friend (male whites in early 20s) wanted to continue the talk. Driver was ok saying he as sorry, but fat friend wanted to run his mouth so I asked if he had a problem and he said "Im cool" and I said if we have a problem we can work it out, agian he said "Im cool". I get back in my vehicle and start to pull off when the fat one yells "Take your A$$ outa here", so I again get out of my POV and ask him if he hs anything to say and he askes what DEPT. I work for and answer " Gary (Indiana)" he says "You aint in Gary" I said "No but my badge says state of Indiana so I can hook you anywhere" (anyone who knows aanything about Gary Indiana knows that the Police dont take no $hit because its a rough city) This litte punk says "what are you going do I aint no gangbanger you cant beat me down" I am getting a little mad at this point so I lean in close and tell him "I wont beat you down but open your mouth one more time and Imgoing to hook you for disorderly and please try to fight me when I do, because I will make you look like a fool in front af all your friends" this was all said so his friends could not hear it and he backed away without another word and got in his car and left. I am glad it went down like this because I didnt want to roll around with all 8 of them. After this I think I am going to start carring my spray with me off duty as all I had was my KAHR P40 and cuffs. I get in the car and told my wife to call the police back and tell them to disregard she said" I didnt call them" I told her If I ever get out to talk with someone again call because it could get bad quick. This little punk must have not been taught about respect for LEOs I have never had anyone in Gary with that much mouth on them to the Police, after it was all over I told my wife I should have hooked that guy to teach him a lesson in respect because I would hav taken anyone on the street that talked to us like that. |

| It has been my learned observation in 19 years of policing encompassing locales both Urban, rural, and suburban, that the kids in the burbs do not and could not understand the subtleties of this chance meeting in the way that the same punks having grown up in an urban venue would see clearly your warning to mend their ways if only for the briefest of moments until you left. I have in general found that urban gang banger drug dealers are far more polite when encountered, than loud mouth know it all, suburban punks. The reason for this I surmise is that the urban kid has, in all likelihood, known someone who has been arrested, imprisoned, resisted with predicatable results, or been shot by they police. The punks in the burbs do not have a common knowledge of such experiences. You being an urban cop, were in fact encountering an alternate reality. |
| Shotar's right. The ghetto kids know the rules, good and bad, and they know starting shit with the po po for no reason is going to end up bad. Mall punks don't even realize the dynamics of what is going on, and won't realize it until Daddy has to come get them out of jail. |

SCAR- For this to be your 236th post in 3 years it obviously torked you. I wish Cali had your laws. The turds can say just about anything to us and we can't do anything about it. BUT....We get paid to wait [}:D] Glad it worked out for you and the wife. I would have a sit down with her about calling next time. I know several other LEO's on the board, as well as myself have code words and signals for our spouses that mean trouble is brewing. We used it once when I saw a robbery getting ready to go down in a hotel lobby where she was standing to register. I walked in, gave her the hand signal, and she walked out with me no questions asked. And yes the local PD got the bad guys. |
