This is a follow up to my previous request for assistance to obtain my LEOSA Certification.

The rest of the story is I contacted my VA. State Delegate, Nick Freitas. His office contacted my previous employer. The employer next referred my request to the State Atty. General for authorization. My Delegate's office contacted them, also. The Atty. Gen. advised they couldn't discuss the matter because of atty./ client confidentiality. My Delegate's office persisted and the Atty. Gen. said they weren't going to address the issue and the matter was being referred back to my previous employer for action. At this point, Nick Freitas contacted the department personally.

After approximately six months of going back and forth, I was finally allowed to attend firearms qualification on the 19th of this month. Today, I went to the main office and was issued my LEOSA ID/ Certification.

Several members here provided useful information. THANK YOU!!!!

Going through my Delegates office saved me, at a minimum, $300 in lawyer's fees and much more in money and time, if this was to drag through the court system.

If this hadn't worked out as it did, my Delegate said he was prepared introduce legislation to address the issues we encountered.

Delegate Freitas, THANK YOU!!!!

Did you get a permanent ID? Or just one good for one year like the qual?

The ID is permanent, so all I need to do is qualify annually.

That was the hard part. Qualing is easy and most agencies do it.

After 15 years of not doing this type of shooting, I was nervous as hell. My hands were shaking so bad, I thought I was going to screw it up. I didn't do too badly, but if I wasn't shaking, I could have done better. Two mags having never before encountered feeding issues didn't help the situation any. I had to do several types of malfunction drills under some pressure. It was good to know those skills were still present.

Afterward, I gave the mags a good cleaning, tested them and they worked fine. I know better for next time.

10-7LEO,

I am glad that you got everything resolved! I really am, and count yourself lucky that your state rep was willing to help out, and that there was already state law there requiring the ID be issued if you meet the requirements. I know some departments here wont issue it to retired/separated officers, and my state reps don't wont to get involved...
