I seem to have forgotten the term but it is when for example someone buys a gun at Walmart or somewhere and is carrying it out. An anti will make a MALICIOUS call babbling about an armed man running around the store with a gun.
I have heard of an increasing number of these along with 'he threatened me with a gun' false reports. How do you handle these? SOme time ago one of the guys at the club said his pal 'printed' and someone pulled that shit but the cop was wise to it and before he frisked the guy he asked the complainer to describe the piece. Crickets. How do you deal with this kind of bullshit? |

It would be difficult to prosecute as filing a false report of a crime, unless they were actually filing a report in person. |

We had a woman who called in a dispute saying one person was armed and going to shoot the other person. She admitted to the cop who responded that she said a gun was involved to get the cops there sooner. He arrested her but the DA declined to prosecute. Yea |

Where I worked, there are all these gun-related crimes that fell under this umbrella of crimes referred to as Exile, and like any other call for service, you approach it with caution. So 18.2-282 is the criminal code for brandishing. Some people can jam themselves up on what is brandishing and what isn't. As a cop, you have to approach each call for service with caution, and then get the details from the suspect, witnesses, and take all things into consideration whether brandishing occurred or not. In a state where open-carry is involved, you can have someone feel scared in cases where there was no intent to induce fear. If the person was concealing their weapon, then you could have possible brandishing. Again, you take everything into consideration. |
| Pretty easy question....I ask the caller to give a written statement and explain that in the course of the investigation i discover they are lying on an official police investigation document they will be charge with filing false reports. Normally the decline to give a written statement and reflect on the situation. The situation you pose doesn't take Dick Tracy or Perry Mason to figure out. Normally as soon as I arrive on scene I already have a pretty good idea of what is going on. |

Around here if the DA declined it's because there really was no case or because she didn't have a job and/or needed a medical/dental procedure done. |

Didn't want to turn jail into another FSA annex, huh? I never thought of that one. Need dental work done? Pull something that'll get you 60 days.

Yeah, frequent fliers. They dont don't see a doctor or a bible until they get booked again. Then they have all sorts of aliments and religion. That and the court system has turned into a revenue getter. Got a good job? 90days, Jerry! Did the same crime as Jerry, for the 4th time, and are unemployed, 36hrs. |

Kinda like the masochist crying ''Beat me!" and the true masochist says "No" Smart financial move when you think about it. |
