Very much a late post, but deserves mentioning: Sgt. Ryan J. Proxmire, Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, EOW: August 15, 2021. From ODMP.org: Sergeant Ryan Proxmire succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous night while involved in a vehicle pursuit. A subject who had evaded officers in an earlier vehicle pursuit was spotted at a gas station on 35th Street near Galesburg. As deputies approached him, the man produced a gun and fled in his vehicle, prompting a second pursuit. During the second pursuit, the subject started shooting at the pursuing deputies. One of the rounds struck Sergeant Proxmire, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway near the intersection of MN Avenue and 38th Street in Charleston Township. Unaware that Sergeant Proxmire had been wounded, the other deputies continued the pursuit for another 4-1/2 miles until the subject's vehicle became stuck in a field. The man exited his vehicle and again shot at the deputies, who returned fire and killed him. A passing motorist encountered Sergeant Proxmire's vehicle and called 911. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wound the following day. Sergeant Proxmire had served with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office for nine years. He is survived by his wife, four children, and parents. Sergeant Proxmire was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Attached File Sgt. KCPD Officer James Muhlbauer and K9 Champ. EOW Feb 15, 2023. Both were killed by a driver going over 80mph on a city street who ran a red light and t-boned them. A pedestrian was also killed when one of the vehicles hit him. The driver had no impairment.

Local to me in my retirement. I met Marc a couple of times. A very nice, thoughtful young man. Only 25 years old and was set to marry his fiancee in February. Greenwood Police Chief TJ Chaudoin told his officers, city staff and media at a Tuesday morning press conference that the death of Officer DJ Keller is the “worst nightmare” for any law enforcement leader.” That nightmare became reality Monday afternoon. Keller, 31, died in the line of duty May 11. According to a report by South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Hannah Davidson, the driver of a 2016 Jeep was westbound on East Cambridge Avenue, evading a traffic stop, and crossed the center median, hitting a Greenwood City Police Department Ford Explorer, driven by Keller, head on.
