Guys,
My daughter is in the application process for FW PD. She will be taking the Physical fitness portion of the process the end of this month. I bought her a cheap duty belt to wear while she PT's, so we could load it up with equipment and simulate the weight she will wear during the test. I think it is a bad idea for her to use her CZ-75 while she's out running with the belt on. , So I would like to get her a a blue or red training gun, that is accurate to weight. Any recommendations and where to buy?

Personally I think it's a bad idea for her to run with that crap on. Does the academy do this? Just have her run, and then run some more. If anything just get a weighted vest. |

I read it as it will be something that will be part of the test. My little brother and I have both been running w/ our full duty belts and sometimes red/blue long guns as well, he's local and i'm federal, I'd assume FW would be similar edit: ASP stuff seems to be pretty close to weight http://www.lapolicegear.com/aspprredgun.html |

Those red guns aren't close to the weight of a loaded weapon. Check these out:
http://www.alternateforce.net/bluegun-trueweight.html I've handled these. They are better. If you do go through with this, I'd recommend she wear BDU's or at least shorts with belt loops so that she can also wear an inner belt with keepers. We PT'd with duty belts in the academy. While I didn't quite see a benefit to PT'ing with the belt over a weighted vest, you'll want that belt secured to the body. It's pretty distracting to have that thing flying all over the place while you run. |

She won't be wearing a belt during the test. They have weighted vests for her to wear during the obstacle course portion of the test. The vests come in various sizes so they will have one that will fit and not be too loose on her. Originally, the test called for body armor and duty belt with weight added but it was difficult getting belts to fit everyone and I think they became concerned that someone would get hung up on the fence and get hurt. Either way they transitioned to the vest. I've run it both ways and could tell not difference. Just have her run with a weighted vest....maybe a chest rig or FLC with weight in the pouches? By the way, i think her running with the gun in the belt would be a bad idea. Good luck to her on the test. |
