So I was tasked with the job of picking out all the lighting and what not for an unmarked Camaro.  I found a lot of help from the swps web site.  They made an unmarked and made my job alot easier.
http://www.swps.com/camaro.html  Im not gonna do the license plate lights...they look like shit in my opinion.  If you watch the video they do not have the rear strobe lights going on like they do in the front.  I have  a few questions

Does anyone know what kit to choose for rear strobe functions for the factory lights in the rear?

No strobes in those head lights only a flasher.  If you want something similar for the rear look here:  http://www.public-safety.com/product_info.php?products_id=2114  



If you want strobes or LED's in the rear you need to drill usually a 1" hole into the stock reflector and mount them that way.  Strobes will heat up though, I'd recommend LED.

i miss worded that.... and thats exactly what i was looking for....any way to make the side marker lights to flash as well?

you can make the side lights flash as well with a flasher kit, but they aren't really bright, look at doing a side window suction mounted light . I would look at code 3 as well, we started using them for our lights since one of our former firefighters is now a sales rep for them and we have been extremely happy with the lights we have purchased from them. I actually looked at his vehicle tonight, he had several of their suction lights set up in a display, and they were impressive. They will be our choice for lightbars and lights for the future

I was looking for some leds for the small back windows of the car... the windows are a 6inch by 9inch by 9 inch triangle.  I also wanted the flashes for a little more because it blows clearing intersections with no side lights in unmarkeds.  We run all c3 lights on our cruisers but we run the bulbs style lights....departments is old school for now...

A whelen Talon should fit in there fine...unless you're stuck on C3, then I don't know what to tell you.

I would suggest at least 1 red 1 blue for the windshield somewhere, to have some high point of visibility.  There are many scenarios where that would be very handy, especially if you're right up on someone.  The back looks good, and any led lights should fit in the side windows.  If you're not doing the license plate lights (which are very bright and compensate for the non-brightness of the top ones behind tint, i'd definately put at least strobes (not flashers) in the tail lights, though the plate lights appear very adequate for day and night and should be reconsidered

So can you only use Code 3 products? Code 3 has lagged behind in LED lighting. Their newest stuff is pretty good but, it is more expensive and not really any better than offerings from Whelen, Federal Signal, Tomar, and Soundoff.

I do not like the car in that video. The grill lights, while cool, are not an efficient way to light the car. Just two lights, one red and one blue, alternating would be just as effective for $150 vs $600.

As mentioned, you really need a light near the headliner in the front windshield.

I would get a headlight flasher for the high beams, two grill lights, and at least two lights for the front windshield. You might even consider an interior light bar that goes across the whole windshield.

For the back, a 6 or 8 head would be sufficient.

A LED in each of the side windows would be nice.

Unless you are will to mount some exterior lights, you will have to accept that intersection warning will pretty much be non-existent. Strobes in the headlights will be ineffective because the headlights are slightly recessed and won't project the flash to the side enough.

Just a few tips, hints, etc.

1. Use Slow and Sync'd Patterns, if it looks all fast and cool, it's not effective.
2. Don't use Split lightheads, especially Red/Blue.  Turns Purple and it cuts the effectiveness of the head in half.
3. No white to the rear.
4. The KISS Principal.

If I were outfitting one, I'd place an interior lightbar along the front headliner, a directional stick in the rear with a single flashing light head at each end, flashing headlights, LED lights for the fog lights, and MAYBE hideaway LED's in the tail/reverse lights (red in brake lamp, blue in reverse lamp), and a solid single light head in the rear side window on each side.

LED's have been an awesome movement in the industry, but it's also opened up the door to most using far more than necessary which is counterproductive and dangerous.  Look at the freeways and volume of traffic CHP has to deal with, look at their light setup and notice how simple it is.  You rarely hear about CHP being hit because it works.

1) I don't necessarily agree on the "slow" part, but yes sync is good.

OP, when I was big into lighting a few years ago someplace was making a front license plate bracket that you could mount a TIR or LIN3 on each side and it would face forward at a 45* angle...maybe some of those for the front/off angle.

Well that too, just didn't want to get long winded. It helps greatly just blending in as a "stalled car."
