Anyone have a good vendor?

Someone mentioned one here a couple of months ago and they had a great selection. They also sold some of their overruns on E-bay, which made for some great deals. I need 3 different vests, so I am trying to look for a decent deal (yes, I am too lazy to switch panels out).

It wasn't Bulletproofme.com. but that is all I can find right now.

As an LEO your agency doesn't update their vests every few years and allow you to keep your old ones? Or do you want only new vests? Just curious.

New vests and we purchase them. It used to be a voucher system, but that switched and our uniform allowance was increased. Only my heavy vest was supplied, but that is a little cumbersome for most stuff.

My dept only supplies vests to full time officers. Reseves can pick through the old ones. Mine is 15 years old.

Given the number of grants out there for LEO vests, what are they charging you for? The portion of the vest cost that doesn't get covered by grant money?

Heavy vest? You guys are issued a plate carrier?

I guess thats better than nothing, as long as the vest was stored properly and isn't one of those vests that were defective from that general time period.

We get new ones every 5 years.

Sorry to derail the thread.

So do we. Back when I started we had to buy our own. Somewhere around my 5th year they started buying us new ones about every 5 years, primarily with grant money.

I think I still have all of my old vests plus about 15 vests that were donated to me when we were deployed downstate on the airbase mission in '03. I double up the panels in my outter carrier in the winter. Don't care if I look puffy...its just more insulation.

Hope I don't find out....

There were some specific brands that were affected; you should be able to figure out if yours was one of them by a little google searching

I think that is a huge liability on the Department....allowing people to take armor that old and may very well fail.

I think it would be worth the money and to ensure peace of mind to pony up the money to buy a new vest.
