My department is in dire need for new laptops in our squad cars. I was pushing for Panasonic ToughBooks but our chief has decided to go with G Tech's. I know absolutely nothing about them but I dont think they are going to impress me much. Anyone have feedback on these things?

cross posted on the LEO forums.

Well, a $5k Toughbook sure gives some monetary room to look for something else.

We were just issued the Getac B300 after 5 years with the Panasonic 29.

Our department tested the new Panasonics vs the Getac and I think the driving force was the longer warranty and the cost.

I'm not overly thrilled with them...not much of a computer geek but I've had to send mine back to IT three times this past month for a blue screen.

The antenna on the top has already broke and the fingerprint reader has never worked...also the touchscreen will sometimes not work.

A few (our dept has about 125 of them) have been totally replaced by the company.

I was very happy with my Toughbook and wish we cold have bought the old ones we used.

YMMV

We have been using ruggedized Dells for our in car terminals for a couple of years, and they work pretty well.

My current issued in car computer is a Dell and its been OK but just hasnt held up to the rough wear and tear of rural police work.
