Can anyone suggest some thing to look into for the following items:
Body armor Level IIIA to be worn under uniform top(currently issued outer wear body armor to wear under uniform top )
Cuff keys(Had some of the long ones from LAPG and the hole got bent so Im in need of another one) Gloves(Good for searching, puncture resistant, possibly can be worn under a heavier set so I dont need to switch out just take off outer set. Used to have a set of Hatch gloves) Earpiece for harris radio/hand mic(I already have the motorola set but not what we are using at my current station) Anything else you can suggest. Mostly doing patrol work. Transports, Domestics, TA's and things like that. Nothing specialized. Currently carry: Black Hawk Patrol belt Belt Keepers PR24 Rotating PR24 Holster(Thinking of finding someone who might be able to mill a Aluminum one for me since the pack ones suck) Surefire with holster 2 sets asp chain cuffs in single pouches Safariland Raptor holster |

What about the guys you work with? Where do they shop? No cop shops near you where you can ask advice or try stuff on? All of the big names have their own armor lines.... Point Blank, Second Chance, Safariland, PACA, etc. Make sure you get fit for it properly. It's not as simple as S/M/L/XL |

Most people have what was issued at a previous unit or what we currently have. Mostly they dont see the need but since I will be doing this for 3 more years(longer then most) I see it as a reasonable investment. |

Take a look at this company's offerings. I had some BVP matching grant funds to get a new vest but all the vests I wanted were out of the price range even with some grant funds to help out. This company has good prices on their site but their ebay auction listings are even better. I got a new, 2011 production, NIJ 06 certified(required for BVP funds), level IIIA vest for $340 shipped. Thsi vest is $950 from Galls and even on our state bid list it was over $700. I added two 8"x10" soft trauma inserts for a total of $420 shipped. We will $210 of that back from our BVP funds so the net cost to our department is only $210. The vest comes with a standard 5"x8" soft trauma insert but I decided to get the two 8"x10" inserts since the vest will take either a 5"x8" or 8"x10" front and back.

Get a 3A vest that meets FBI Testing Standards. Anything that performs to that level is GTG. How light/thin while doing that is up to your $$$. Suggestions? Manufactures to check out? Go over to m4carbine.net and lightfighter.com forum and read the body armor sections. They have all the info you could ever want. |
